78 flipped rear shock brackets, better angle ?
I have a new 9 inch rearend coming with no shock mount pads welded on so was wondering if someone has a better idea for mounts. There is such a steep angle once you have shock the extended like with shock extenders. Is a 78 blazer with a flip and mild AOL air bags

Not sure where/how you have your bags located, but I made brackets & mounting both of the shocks vertical behind the axle. Dont know if this could fit with what you have or not. Lorne

Re: 78 flipped rear shock brackets, better angle ?
I haven't bothered/figured how to post photos since the whole Photobucket ransom mess.
If you go here:http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=737307 You can see the lower brackets I made. For the top, I unbolted the original studs, made a large "washer" to support the movement simply drilled a hole in the frame near the top. Hope this helps! Lorne |

I was looking at those style of shock mounts. This is how mine looks, this is not mine, I believe is T.V. Blazers

Does it matter on shock angle ? The straighter the better ?

Re: 78 flipped rear shock brackets, better angle ?
Yep! There is some information on many shock/suspension manufacturers sites, ect. about how the angle from vertical effects the dampening.
If you look at the photo you posted, that shock is spending half of the suspension travel rotating around the bushing eyes. Wrong, wrong...wrongwrongwrong |

Re: 78 flipped rear shock brackets, better angle ?
So your saying that is wrong,LOL That,s why I like your brackets. Looks like it might push it out some and see where It lands up. I will find info on shock angles and see what I need. Have to remove old rear and mock up new one. Thats why I like the 9 inch ,no weight. Thanks for the help, will keep a update thru the months. Hope is a good winter for this

Keeps the shocks between plumb & 30°. For your set-up that's similar to the pic above, fabbed lower shock brackets are the way to go.
Check this set-up out. 3rd page, starting @ post #56: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=808341

That,s Scotti ,that perfect, just have to find those brackets. I,d like to try and make some but I don,t own a plasma cutter or know anyone with one. Trouble is with this virus is getting hard to get stuff and in Can. is harder

Maybe these would work? Not sure on the overall length but they basic bracket is there & could be tweaked for length if needed. Can Summit Racing get things through to Canada?

Re: 78 flipped rear shock brackets, better angle ?
I've never been involved in a transaction out of country. Can someone ship direct from US @ a lower cost? Or is it the same $$ & hassle?

Re: 78 flipped rear shock brackets, better angle ?
It,s sorta a hassle , even if you sent it me , you have to get it and then relabel it , go to the post office, pay for it or send it collect and I won,t ask anyone to do this. Thanks thou, your always so helpful and go out of your way to help. from other threads I,ve read like the 2 link arm one and then someone sheets on your effort . I,ll get it done, even If I have to make it outta wood, LOL. I,m sure there will be more questions as soon as I get the rear end back.
