Where to disconnect steering column
About to perform a cab lift and not sure the correct procedure on disconnecting the steering column.
Should I mark the position on the column? At the rag joint? Or further up at that bolt by the shift linkage? Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks! Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Where to disconnect steering column
Disconnect at the rag joint, then you can disconnect at the clamp at the base of the steering column where it comes through the firewall. I mark the shaft and the steering box input shaft to keep from 180 degrees out upon install.

Re: Where to disconnect steering column
I'd just take it loose at the shifter linkage. It can only go back on one way where the bolt slides through. No reason to take it a part 2 times just to pick the cab up. Less stuff to have hanging.

Re: Where to disconnect steering column
That looks like a 67 - 1 piece shaft , It's not coming apart .

Re: Where to disconnect steering column
Grumpy wins! My 68 had this style shaft and it was a pain to get out. I was lucky enough that the bearings in my column were so shot that they had enough play to pull out through the cab and out the driver side door.

Re: Where to disconnect steering column
You can just disconnect it at the steering box rag joint and lift , What are your plans ?
