I hit a deer

Hit a deer 7 weeks ago. State Farm totaled it. Cost for shop repair was 6,900. Cost of parts about 3,300. Still hashing out a price. They offered 3,300. Of that they'll minus my 500 deductible, charge me 1,200 to keep my truck. That would leave me a check for 1,600.
Out of 20-25 calls I've never spoken to the same person twice. You deal with their ''team''. I hired an independent appraiser. They valued it at 10,700. State Farm started at 8,000 and then whittled it down from there. They got a price for a daily driver in poor condition, then tried to deduct down from there for it being in poor condition, lol.
I used the appraisal clause so now it's up to the insurance appraiser and mine to come to an agreement. If not it goes to an umpire.
Good news is I found a 1971 short bed for 2,200. Mine was a 72 long bed. The short bed has leaf springs, posi track rear end, sliding back glass, must have been special ordered,it's a Chevrolet c10,spid shows the options. No factory ac but it is a Cheyenne. It's in better condition than my 72. A little roof rust inside, rockers and cab corners need replaced but they aren't in horrible shape.
I'll put my 383 in it,my buddy buckets, the 700r4 tranny,ect.

Re: I hit a deer

The story started sounding better near the end. Sounds like your truck can live on joining up with another truck... and you end up with a short bed Cheyenne

State Farm Insurance is your problem. They used to be a great company. Not at all now.

Gosh I’m glad I’ve got Hagerty and a guaranteed 10K if something like this happens. That sounds like a real nightmare.

Re: I hit a deer

Best view: my appraiser asked if I'd be happy with 8,000. I should have a number around Wednesday.

Special-k: I hate to see a clean title going to a salvage title over sheet metal, radiator and grill.

Irl104: State Farm is not a good neighbor. They give millions per year to politicians but don't want to pay a customer for a claim.

57taskforce: my next policy will have an agreed upon value. Is 10,000 enough for you? It doesn't take long to get a bunch of money tied up in a truck.

I agree with Tim. Shame to see it go to a salvage title over panels that can be replaced. Unfortunately the same happened to my truck at some point in time. The bed got shoved up into the cab, only minor cab damage but an insurance company totaled it. I don’t really care because I don’t plan to sell it. If I do I will get what I want for it or it won’t leave the driveway. It’s paid for, I’t don’t cost me a dime to keep in the driveway.

Mine is still very much a Jolopy. As I do more too it I up the agreed value more as I go. Once the next phase of my build is done I’ll easily add 5K.

Re: I hit a deer

Hard dealing with regular insurance on an old vehicle. They can play hardball and hold it up for months . Sounds like you found another one but I wouldn't be posting it's in better shape and it's less than what the insurance offered for yours. Just me but I'm a little paranoid

Nice thing about NY no salvage title on a pre 73 vehicle since there's no title guess it would be on car fax it was involved in an accident

Re: I hit a deer

Man am I a happy camper. Frank at totallossdispute got me 9,550. They also pay taxes at a low 5 percent which puts me above 10,000. This appraiser I hired is great. I would give him 6 stars out of 5. If you ever get low balled by an insurance company this is the man to turn to.
No receipts required. The insurance company had me gathering them, major headache. He said he's been doing this since 1981. The $275 I paid for the appraisal and another $125 for his representation with the insurance companies appraiser is the best money I have ever spent in my life and I'm 52.
Tell your friends, family neighbors and dog about this guy. I'm Still in awe as he just called me with the number. Much better than the 3365 the insurance company offered me.

.
Great resolution! The ins company was up to no good as per usual and this proves it!

Once this claim is done, consider using grundy or hagerty in future to avoid trouble!

Re: I hit a deer

I'll get my settlement by Tuesday. They uped the salvage price to $2.300. With the new appraisal amount. I'll get a $7.200 check. I'll still have a clean title as it is no longer considered totaled. I think I see how the hook gets set on the c10 addiction. I'm still going to get the 71 short bed. I'll start a new post on my build. With lots of pictures. I'll start it today with a spid picture.

Re: I hit a deer

This is why you go with a company that understands classic vehicles. I have hagarty and a guaranteed value amount in the event my truck gets totaled and the premium is probably pretty close to what you would pay for a State Farm or Geico policy that's going to use the straight up blue book value and try to screw you over when its time to pay up.

My Hagerty policy is $800 a year cheaper for my truck and my Camaro than Geico was. My truck was liability only with Geico. 10k and 25K agreed values thru Hagerty.
