72 c-20
Hey Guys Ive got a 72 C-20 stock 350 regular Exhaust no headers i bought a 3 row aluminum radiator last year i wasn't thinking clearly that day should have gotten a 4 row 180 thermostat its a daily Driver my temperature at times gets 190 ,195 in traffic regular engine fan how much coolness am i going to gain if i get a 4 row is it worth the money and time ?? That 3 row alum radiator should be plenty for a stock-ish 350. 190-195 is not hot. 220+ is hot
Get a clutch fan assembly if you are running just a flex solid fan Assuming you have a shroud |

I agree, there is nothing wrong with your temperatures. I don't start worrying until mine reaches 210º. LockDoc

Based on recommendations I found from searching the forum, I bought the following fan and clutch from Summit Racing.
DER-17118 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/DER-17118 HDA-2705 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/HDA-2705 I also bought a set of mounting studs from the Help! section at Napa. I think it was Dorman part number 23733. |

Hayden #2747 (got mine at NAPA) is an excellent heavy-duty clutch. Pair that with a 7-blade (6 blade will work too) 18" diameter fan. And as noted, a fan shroud.

As noted above, 190-195 is not hot. That said, if you find yourself shopping for a new radiator, a heavy-duty 2-row aluminum is probably a better choice than a 4-row.

My C-20 has a 3 row full aluminium tig welded radiator with normal 5 blade Chevy fan and shroud. Make sure the air is going through the radiator and not around it. Block off all area's of air going around the radiator and force it through the radiator. You can see the foam that I put around mine to seal it off.
My C-20 runs a 195* thermastat and it does good. If you don't have AC there is no need for a clutch fan. The motor fan should work just fine. Don't ever use a flex fan though. In fact mine runs a little cold in the winter time.

A clutch fan will take less HP, and provides a racing edge. Not much, just a little. True, not really necessary without A/C. It's like using the 2-1/2" FI Corvette alternator pulley. The difference is most noticeable on small engines, but another trick to use when drag racing. A little here, a little there.
I was having a problem with my truck running hot, a problem that this truck has had the entire time that my PiL owned it. I'm talking 260º pulling hills, and idling. I put in a severe duty clutch, and that helped, but the high-flow thermostat got put in after noticing (when replacing the stock radiator) that there wasn't a whole lot of flow. New water pump previously, etc. This truck has run hot for so long that my wife didn't even know/remember that it had A/C, because it never got used, especially when towing the travel trailer, back when her father was still alive.
