67/68 Head Light Bezels?

Curious as I see these in both white and silver? Did it depend on the trim level of the truck as ordered or thru the years have they been painted at the owner's whim? I know the 67s did not have the notch for the headlight adjustment as the 68 bezels do. 67s seem to have a LOT of one year only peculiarities going for them.

Re: 67/68 Head Light Bezels?

Model Year 1967 headlight bezels and grill surrounds are sheet metal [steel]. Usually painted white or a desired contrasting color.

MY 1968 headlight bezels, grille surrounds AND leading edges of hood and front fenders are trimmed with bright anodized aluminum trim strips. 1968 trucks usually had the front of the grille painted White, over the body color. [It was body color on '67s.]

Since only the 1968 replacement parts were available from the dealers, a lot of '67 trucks have been ''restored'' to a '68 look.
So it's mainly a model year design change, rather than a trim level distinction.
[I have also seen a lot of '68s ''restored'' to a '67 look by NOT painting the front White.]

There were 2 trim levels, Standard, and DeLuxe [Custom] With the higher trim level there was lower side molding on Fleetsides. Chrome surrounds on windshield and back window, and [MY '67-only] the Panoramic [wide] rear window. By MY '68 the wide rear window was standard.
Since my own '68 C/10 Stepside was a basic fleet-order truck, I am not expert at the deluxe stuff.

I think it was '69 and later headlamp bezels, with the screwdriver notch for adjustment. '68 bezels have to be removed to get to those adjustors.

I believe the painted trim parts (hubcaps, bumpers, grille, mirrors) depended on body color, as it varied within the '68s. But the rule of thumb was basically white for '67 and silver for '68.

Re: 67/68 Head Light Bezels?

I bought 67 steel hoops and bezels for my 68 . Going to chrome them I'll figure out something for the hood and brow mouldings . I have access to a water jet and CNC machine so I may just use square stock stainless steel and polish or chrome them too

Re: 67/68 Head Light Bezels?

Around the 66-67 time frame there were rumors that the government was going to make a regulation requiring the front ends of vehicles to be more visible at night. To get in front of this new issue GM responded by painting truck grilles white.
With the 68 GTO Endura bumper development done and assembly line production testing underway this was a big deal for GM (especially Pontiac) In the end (by mid to late 1967) the hubbub had died and it was a non issue.
Or so I was told by a retired Pontiac engineer.
Classic pretend your going to comply but, do everything you can to kill the new regulations.
