16” Tires on C20

Picked up a project truck. Replaced the missing carburetor and with a little time the 402 is running pretty dang good. Now I need to get some shoes that don’t look like they’ll explode just by looking at them. The truck has 235 85 R16 on it right now but I was thinking of going to a 265 75R 16 to fill out the wheel wells a little more. Looking for advice.

looking at getting these tires

Re: 16” Tires on C20

I'm very happy with the 265/75/16, as you say it fills out the wheel well nicely on a 3/4 ton.

Re: 16” Tires on C20

Your truck looks awesome! Did you mount them on the Chevy 6" rim or find a set of the f*rd 7" rims?

Any pictures of your truck with the 285s?

Re: 16” Tires on C20

You might check those eBay tires, I don’t think they are LT rated, just P rated. I’m sure they are offered both ways.

Thanks, I did try to find some used Ford rims, I lived in the Sacramento, CA area back then. All the local salvage yards only had junk rims, so I bought online from this company, 7x16.

LT245/75R16 BFG A/T KO2 tires on Chevy 6.5" wheels

LT245/75R16 Goodyear Wrangler tires on ford 7" wheels

Re: 16” Tires on C20

235 85 16 and 265 75 16 are virtually the same height just different width. Either is a good choice, but I prefer the wider tire look. If you plan on running a 6” rim I would stay with the 235 although lots of 265 installed on the 2000-2008 GM 6.5” rims. I ran 265 75 16 0n my ‘70 C2500 on Alcoa super single forged wheels and it looked fantastic. The math, if you are interested:

265 is the section width in millimeters. There are 25.4 mm per inch. 265/25.4= 10.43 inches wide. The profile is 75% of the section width: 10.43 x 75=7.825” sidewall height. Times two for the bottom of the tire and top of the tire = 15.64 inches high. Added to the 16” rim diameter you have a tire 31.64” tall and 10.43 inches wide.

235 85 16 tire is 9.25” section width and 31.72” tall.
245 75 16 is 9.64” wide and 30.4” tall
285 75 16 is 11.2” wide and 32.8” tall.

All true, and a great explanation of what the tire sizes mean. If I may, I would like to add that the measurements can be somewhat nominal. There are sometimes slight variations in actual dimensions from one brand to another. This is usually insignificant unless someone is super particular about tire size or is mixing brands.

Found these on craigslist. Seems like a good deal.

Can you run beauty rings and the stock dog dishes at the same time?

Stock dog dish wont work on those no nips. They look like much later model years

Edit: They look just like the wheels that were on my 98 GMC Savanna van trim rings and center caps that were held in place with the plastic lig nut caps

That's correct, I imagine that those would work with conversion lug nuts and modern hub covers. I just picked up a set myself. At that price it's a good option if you are into that look.

Re: 16” Tires on C20

Got the rims. Hoping I can drill and tap three or four holes and use button head machine screws to Act as the missing knobs to hold on hubcaps. I set one on there to see how it would look. If I’m successful I will post to pictures.

Re: 16” Tires on C20

I can't recall if I had posted pictures of the new tires in another thread or not...well these are Firestone LT 265 / 75R 16...I also had the rims powder coated white ( the originals were silver ) I like how the white shows against the black ! I'm also attaching the SPID, would like to know the type of rear-end / ratio ( I'll write this down this time )

Thanks again !

Off topic, but never seen a "miscellaneous lamp" option before. Nice truck.

Big Block trucks came with 3.56 as standard equipment. There's no code for a different ratio, so if it is the original, I'd expect it to still be a 3.56 ratio.
