Mostly it is trial and tweaking. I always mark the hinges to get them back close to what it was. Then it is normally tweaking to fine tune them. It's mostly getting experience and they will work out.

Re: an tips for lining the doors up on a 72 c-10
that's spot on with my experience with panel fitment, there are so many variables, not sure if your doors are original equipment or aftermarket, but I have had some real fights with some of the aftermarket doors, with window frame relationship to upper cab opening, and also how other repairs to the cab opening may have been done in the past, I generally rebuild my hinges first then fit the doors to the cab opening, centering the upper window frame , and adjusting to where the rear of the door fits the latch post and B pillar, all the way down to the cab corner front to rear and depth wise, and then do my lower cab repairs- rockers, cab corners, etc, with the door adjusted in place then mark everything and remove for paint...I always do a full mock up of the cab panels while doing metal replacement and finish body work. just to make sure everything is happy., patience is the key and I understand what its like being a perfectionist, I will spend hours getting panels fit, to get them just right, but everyone sure likes the end results. there is a lot of adjustability fortunately in these trucks, unlike my 72 nova, where the hinges are factory welded to the body,

Not sure why this post was edited and content deleted, did not see anything that caused alarm. Anyway, referring to what was once posted. To bring the top of the door in you can loosen top hinge bolts on door and cowl. Then you may have to move bottom out. Lock pin for latch may have to be adjusted as well. As said in previous post, trial and tweaking.
