Heartbreaking
An old friend of mine sent me these photos. This was the truck I drove from ages 16-22 and spent countless hours working on. I foolishly sold it when I got out of college and it would appear the last 30 years have been rough on it.
Someone added a tach but they cut the dash and added those goofy blue dots to the tail lights. Not a fan of the wheels either. Looks like it has spent all 30 of those years out in the elements as well. Might not be worth saving now but it was a high option truck with p/s, pb, tilt wheel, and a/c. I did a disc brake swap on it in 1990 by installing parts from a 71 front end under it. I have been considering building a rear bumper like this one for my 67.

Re: Heartbreaking
Speak for yourself. I think I've aged just a bit better than the truck but I guess that's in the eye of the beholder, right?

Re: Heartbreaking
First vehicle? Looks ok to me. Go for it. I hated my 1st car, and wouldn't have it back as a gift. You friend are lucky to have had the chance to own it.

Re: Heartbreaking
This is where the story gets a bit interesting. The truck is currently NFS. I sold it to my father in 1992 and he turned around and sold it to the younger brother of my high school girlfriend. As of now the teenage son of that guy is driving it.

Re: Heartbreaking
Exactly. I asked about my Baja Bug for 6 years. (it was across the street). I got the old "Not for sale'. Then one day it was. The neighbor even came over and asked if I still wanted it He said he wanted $200. Sold. I might be dumb but I'm not that dumb. I'll take that deal.
It never hurts to ask. Just put it out there. Get them thinking about it. I got my Packard for way less than the guy was asking. He was asking way too much. It just took him some time to realize that. He came around and I bought it at a fair (high) price.

Re: Heartbreaking
I'd work on warming up to this one. As I looked through the thread I was thinking any other thread and guys would be commenting on the patina. This is how we get 'em, right? Those acrylic repaints never held up well and it's been 30 years. The trees have grown!

Re: Heartbreaking
I avoid vehicles I have sold for this exact reason. I don’t want to see them run into the ground.

Re: Heartbreaking
This is the last photo I have of it, around 1991 or so. It wasn't a show stopper but it was in way better condition. At this point in it's life I had probably put 80,000 miles or more on it.
