August 2022 ToTM

The August 2022 Truck of the Month (ToTM) contest theme is:

Succeeding Power
I seem to be seeing more stuff popping up of folks wanting to keep theirs. Even though the truck I had with one is gone, I still love them. So, this month’s theme is for our diehard in-line 6-engine members. To see what it takes to be a nominee this month, the truck will need to meet these criteria:
  • Open to all years and models of Trucks, Blazers, Suburbans, and Jimmys.
  • The vehicle nominated needs to belong to a board member during the time of the contest.
  • The truck has to be powered by an in-line 6 gasoline powered engine.
  • It must be together and able to move on its own power.
  • The truck has to be licensed for street use.
  • If a truck was selected as a 2021 or 2022 ToTM winner then you are ineligible. If the truck was nominated but not selected as a ToTM winner then it may be nominated and compete in this month's category.
To Nominate:

You or someone else may nominate the vehicle. The nominee must be a board member and the current owner of the truck. Once you decide on who you wish to nominate, just add your nomination to this thread. We will need two pictures minimum, at least one full view of the vehicle and one of the engine. In addition, we will need the owner’s board name and the Make/Model/Year of vehicle. I will PM the nominees to get any additional data or pictures if they have not already been provided. If the owner has a preferred picture they want used in the contest, please let me know in a PM. You can PM me for an e-mail address in case anyone has problems resizing the pictures for the board.

Nominations will run through July 24. The first 15 nominees that meet the criteria will participate in the contest. A Poll Thread will be set up July 25 in this board area and an announcement will be posted on the Discussion Boards to notify all that voting has begun. The Poll will run thru the morning of August 1 and the official announcement of the winner will be on the evening of August 1. The announcement of the ToTM winner will be posted through the General Discussion Board area.

I appreciate the support, Brother.
Unfortunately, my Orange '68 C/10 Stepside w/Production L-25 [292] is not currently running.
I got clipped on the passenger side rear and it mangled my rear fender and took out my 12-Bolt posi differential. I have a rebuilt 12-Bolt diff, originally off a '65 C/10, ready to go. Also an unbent Panhard Bar -- gift from PJ Moreland. Unmolested trailing arms with fresh bushings are almost repainted. Gold '68 Step Fender. Bought a fresh 6-Lug 6x16 rim.
Can't say if the Orange Sunshine Special will be back up and running by August. It's monsoon season and I don't have a garage.
Parts are standing by, but my mechanic came down with Covid, so he's moving kinda slow. And work keeps getting in the way of a good project.
My PM box is full too.

Re: August 2022 ToTM

I can't wait until I get mine running, then I'll nominate it. It is a 1953 five window 1/2 ton pickup (3100) with a 1959 261 cu/in inline six that has been completely overhauled with new pistons, water pump, Vertex magneto, etc. and a McCulloch supercharger from a 1959 Studebaker Golden Hawk. It will be running some day soon........I hope.

It currently undergoing major surgery with 1) replacement of its wiring harness, 2) 4-wheel disk brake and electric master cylinder upgrade, 3) new wheels and tires, 4) refurbished radiator and Vintage Air install, 5) relocation of gas tank from cab to rear of bed, 6) new interior, 7) cut and buff paint on all four fenders and hood, 8) new front and rear chrome bumpers, 9) chroming of original grille, and 10) painting of new Mar-K bed sides and floor, etc, etc, etc.

Orange, you sound like me. I will still vote for yours. I think, if the engine starts and can move an inch, you might be a candidate.
Are those factory wagon wheels? If so, I've never them in 6 lug.

Yes it starts, and will move an inch, but until I get the new Rear End and Trailing Arms installed, I don't want to move it. The present 12-Bolt makes the most God awful crunching-grinding groan when you put it in gear.
Also some weird engine noises -- possibly just out of place sheet metal on the flywheel guard -- but I wanted Dennis my mechanic buddy to listen to it before we tear into the motor too. He hasn't been well.

Actually those are 6 x 16 Trailer Wheels. American Racing 8-Spoke White ''Wagon''wheels. The tire shop set me up on them ~20 years ago, to accomodate 235/85/16LT tires. Object was to get same ride height and feel as OEM 17.5x5.25 6-Lug rims with 8R-17.5 tires. 17.5 rims were pronounced ''shot'' at that time. That 17.5'' size rim was ultra rare from the start, and obsolete 32 years later.
Mileage then was around 300,000. I never knew the replacements were trailer rims. Now at about 406,000, I got a duplicate 6 x 16 trailer rim from C& J Tires in Tucson. Probably #5 from the other 4 I bought there in Late'99 or early 2000's. I had the impacted rim ''trued'' by a local wheelwright for $80, after calling around town asking for that size in a Truck Wheel, and getting nowhere. Once it was dismounted, and I saw the inside Trailer markings up close, I knew what to look for. Sure enough, I called the same guys I got the first set from, and they had one. For $68 bucks. I got down there early the next day and snatched it. So now the dinged-but-trued wheel will become the spare.
Not recommending anyone else put their truck on Trailer Wheels, but it's worked fine for me for over 100,000 miles and 20 years, so I'm confident in using them myself.

Re: August 2022 ToTM

I'd like to nominate Countr and his 1967 CST K20 powered by a torque monster 292. It's one of my favorite trucks on the board and I have seen Russ do a wonderful rebuilt of this beast from the time he called me up about a red K20 for sale in Idaho to where it sits now. I'm sure he'll chime in more on this awesome rig

Re: August 2022 ToTM

Thanks Curt!! And thanks again for helping me get the truck out of Idaho.
It has been fun working on the truck, trying to keep it as original as possible.

1967 4 speed 4x4 292 CST panoramic view. I believe it is a pretty rare find and again thanks for all the help getting the truck and finding the nos parts needed along with all the other members that helped finding parts as well.
Thanks Russ
