Rear window regulator

Hello guys I come here looking for some help maybe? I have a 1976 chevy k5 blazer with a manual rear window of course. Well ever since I've owned it when I roll the rear window up it would pop the outside seal out of the tailgate when the window was almost to the very top like something was pushing it up and put. Fast forward I replaced the seals in the top and tailgate with precision gaskets since then. In the meantime I also had to replace the rear window regulator because it stripped out a few teeth off of it trying to roll it all the way up. Well a few weeks later I've stripped out another regulator in the same spot same teeth on the regulator. Has anyone seen anything like this. I removed the seals out of the top to make sure nothing was binding but it didn't affect it. Could my crank be bad stripping out these regulators? I know this is long winded but I wanted to provide all the info best possible. Thanks guys

Re: Rear window regulator

I'm sure the Blazer and Suburban parts are different because I'm pretty sure a few years ago when I had to replace my rear window motor nothing interchanged. But, on the Burbs you had to be careful to realign the regulator gears so they were matched - that is, so the left side of the glass was not rising faster than the right, etc. And you could get things lined up such that the window glass would go all the way up but not all the way down, and the reverse. There were stamped marks on the regulator to line things up. Any chance you have a similar issue? For that to be the case it would mean someone before you did something to the rear window and did not get it lined back up correctly.

And good luck. I fought mine for a long time, ended up having to fabricate some new parts that are no longer available

Re: Rear window regulator

I'm not saying that is the issue, because I don't remember how similar the suburban/blazer set-ups are. Just that on a suburban the two half-moon gear sets in the regulator can jump out of whack.
