Front body re-install order

‘69 K10, took hood, hood hinges, core support, grill, wheel wells and bumper off to install new motor and trans. I did not loosen (at the cab)or remove the actual front fenders.

Motor and trans in and running, so core support also in. Bought new wheels wells and wrestled them in which was quite a bit of hole adjustment on the WW.

To the point where truck needs to go to the muffler shop for 2 downpipes from my stubby headers to existing pipes/mufflers. I want hood on for that trip in case it sits outside at all.

Hood doesn’t want to line up at all, either hits fender or cowl.
I’ve tried to adjust with hood bolts and hinge bolts and either hits fenders or cowl.

I’m figuring I need to take out the wheel wells, bummer, loosen the bolts to the core support and try to reassemble in the following order:

Line up hood between fenders and cowl
Install grill
Re-install wheel wells, ugh.

I work alone out here so any tips or advice would be greatly.

There should be a link to a poorly executed build thread that needs to be updated badly.

Re: Front body re-install order

1st I would check the front clip for square since you installed a new core support. How are your fender to door fitment? If those are good and you have good hood hinges and hood you should be able to slot/adjust everything to get your hood to close. FWIW I always install inner fenders after everything is aligned.

Re: Front body re-install order

Thanks Rob

I used the same core support, just painted it.

How would one go about “checking the front clip for square”.

I definitely agree those inner fenders are going back in last.

Re: Front body re-install order

Center point of cowl . Measure to the hood bumper on the support . The measurement has to be identical from left to right .

You should be able to loosen all the inner skirt bolts and move the front from side to side . We’re not talking inches here a 1/8 or less of an inch should be all that’s needed.
