SBC Engine numbers
I have a crusty engine in my 1965 C10 and having a heckofatime finding what it is and if I keep it old school or trade it for a complete LS 5.3 / 4L60E setup a guy wants to trade.
I'm assuming the 1st couple numbers but what I can read is 70010 And under the alternator is two sets of numbers as follows: V0429TDB C8A168256 that's where it gets me, why would there be multiple? Is there somewhere else I need to be looking? Thank you for letting me pick your brain. |

Re: SBC Engine numbers
The smaller numbers are the vin of the car or later model truck it came from , The V0429TDB are the engine codes . Is the dip stick on the drivers or passengers side?
a quick looks shows TDB to be a 72-80 307 The V shows as a Flint built engine https://www.nastyz28.com/gm-chevy-co...s-suffix-7.php

Re: SBC Engine numbers
I'd be doing some more checking the 0010 is a good block and from what I've seen usually signifies a 350 ? is it a 2 barrel or 4 barrel carb ? I'd have to pull the oil pan and check if it's a 2 or 4 bolt main before I'd trade it away , Maybe the guy wanting to trade for it sees something we can't ? post a picture of the whole engine .

Re: SBC Engine numbers
There should be a casting date code on the passenger side top back of the block behind the intake manifold. The last digit will be the year.

Re: SBC Engine numbers
I've been all over that engine gawd knows what I have disconnected (wires need cleaned up anyway)
I'm about ready to pull it so I can see 👀 but I'll check on passengers side once I warm up a bit. |

Re: SBC Engine numbers
There's a LOT going on there , late model power brake booster , should pull vacuum from port on the manifold in front of the distributor not the carb , pcv isn't hooked up should go to the port currently used by the brake booster , Long water pump and altenator on passenger side along with type of valve covers looks like 1980 .
What transmission is in it ? post a picture of the whole truck .

Re: SBC Engine numbers
Yes! And there appears to be no check valve in the booster! I'd also rotate the throttle linkage rod 180º on the firewall side lever so that the pull isn't so far off-axis. That's minor, though.

Re: SBC Engine numbers
Yeah it was cobbled when I got the truck and after I installed the crossmember and brake booster I also cobbled it to test the brake function.
That's what I found when I went to adjust the clutch and that matched the quality white paint that was implement paint with a PAINTBRUSH. That's what happens when you grab a trailer friend and drive 4hrs to get a marketplace "Good deal" trying to replace my beloved 1966 k10, Last edited by Sun Baked; 12-04-2022 at 05:35 PM.
