Adding Power Steering Box - Bolt right up to frame??

Hey guys, I'm slowly collecting all the stock parts to add power steering to my L6 250 truck. I've seen a couple Youtube videos with guys installing conversion kits (I'm using all stock components) where the kits come with mounting brackets to attach the steering box to the frame. Mind you both videos were for other generation trucks..(60's Chev and Square body)

Will my stock power steering box bolt right up to my 71 frame or do I need to source or add these frame mount brackets I've been seeing?

Thx!

Post a picture of what you have ?

when I converted my 67 from manual to power steering I used a 76 c10 box to get the quicker steering ratio I think it's 3.5 lock to lock . It's a cardone 27-7501 it bolted right in place of the manual box .

Nice setup, that's one clean engine bay, wow!

The power steering box is still in transit with my dad. It's out of a 72 C10. You want pics of the box or my current stock manual steering box on my 71 truck?

All of the truck boxes up to '87 are a direct bolt on as far as fitting the '71 frame.

That's what all my research showed as well. Do you know why these aftermarket kits always include extra mounting brackets? Seems odd they would if we don't need it

The adapter brackets are needed for the earlier trucks. I needed one for my 65 when I put the square body box on.

I have never looked at or conducted any research on those kits so I can't answer that one. Mounting a frame mounted power steering box into a '67 frame would require an adapter or frame modification so maybe that is what the kit covers.

Sorry about the poor picture off of my computer screen but that's from a video of a guy installing a steering box on an 60's C10. The thing that got me worried was I saw another install video for a kit on a square body and that guy was also using that same bracket for the box

Sounds like the verdict is she's a direct bolt on to my truck which is great! Just odd about the kits with the brackets lol

Re: Adding Power Steering Box - Bolt right up to frame??

I think I remember Stacey David going on about some square body frames tending to crack at the power steering box mount. Think it might have been the stunt man truck build on gearz.

Those kits might be to reinforce that frame rail there.

you can find some links (the one I tried to post didn't work here) on google for squarebody frame crack power steering

Re: Adding Power Steering Box - Bolt right up to frame??

FWIW my 72 PS box bolts direct to frame. maybe some of the brackets in "the kit" are to mount a PS pump...

I just bought a new box, rag joint and lines to replace the originals.

Make sure to check the rag joint splines and their shape are the same.
