Modify auto steering column for a 4 speed
Hello: I have a '63 c10. im putting in an LQ4/4l80e. I have a steering column from a '66 GMC with a 2 speed automatic. Is it possible to modify this column to use with a 4 speed automatic?

Re: Modify auto steering column for a 4 speed
I used an adjustable column shift linkage from Lokar to hook up my 700r4 to my stock automatic transmission column with no modification to the column. The transmission shift gate seems to over ride the one on the column. I added a shift indicator lens from a car with a 3 speed trans. I think it was an impala. The hardest part was getting the indicator to line up which gear the trans is in.

Re: Modify auto steering column for a 4 speed
I did the same as forestb, but me being cheap used a Lokor knock off kit like this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/40355778437...Bk9SR8iIupXXYg
Granted, I was doing a 350/350 combo but there are no detents in the column to let you feel the gear you selected, that feel is the feedback from the transmission as it mechanicaly goes through the gears. Here's a link waht I did to my 64 - starting at post#8: https://www.ebay.com/itm/40355778437...Bk9SR8iIupXXYg |
