? about rearend
what is the easiest way to know if you have a locker in your rearend? without looking at the option sheet. i have the corprate/eaton 3/4ton rearend. is it true that when the rearend is jacked up (both tires) you spin one tire one way the other tire goes the other way. plus my glove box says no spin. can a detroit locker go bad?

shoulda asked me. pop the cover and look in the little access holes to the center where the spiders are left hand side if i remember right. if you see teeth its open if the little gears are smooth its a locker. if its busted ill take it and you can get a detroit for a 14ff and just swap to the 32 spline axels. fits perfectly that way. and then i can take the old one apart. if the tires spin when jacked up jerk one hard forward if the other jerks and follows its some kind of locker. 69k5 Last edited by 69k5; 01-13-2004 at 01:36 AM. |

locker
to bad your not here in az i sure could use someone to help me work on this rearend, i have a spare detroit locker that i picked up for nothing, im gonna hold on to it for now, the holes in the carrier i cant remember seeing anything in there, so im wondering if the kid took the locker out because of the noise on the pavement, i know the axles that i have will work with the locker i have. if i have any ? i get with you since u know about it . thanks again nathan

It would take quite a bit to break a detroit locker...I am thinking a lifted 4x4 and a seriously powerful big block...even then, detroits arent the weak link, the driveshaft or u joints should go first.
lockers normally make noise on the road. they pop and clunk when you go around corners if you dont have the gas all the way mashed to the floor.

Maybe it's had the entire center section changed at some point. A no spin can at no time allow wheels to spin opposite directions. If you are checking it with the rear raised, you will either turn both wheels the same or you will disconnect it and only turn the one you are turning. They can never turn opposite directions.
