A/C help needed. Re. 87 Burb

We have a 87 burb the and the A/C has stopped working. When we checked for power at the compressor there was none. Why would there be no power ? Is there a swithch that could have gone bad at the inside controll ? We checked the fuse it's good any other Ideas ?

Thanks

If there is no freon (or low on freon), there is a switch that kills the power to the system. I don't know the details, but it is on one of the lines on the box on the firewall. It will be the lump with the wires going to it.

Lightbulb

Slonaker is sorta right.

There's a pressure sw. mounted on the receiver drier take off the connector and jumper it then remove the connector on the compressor and hook up a test light to it and put the selector in any A/C position and see if you get pwr @ the compressor.

If so then you need to ck. the sys. for leaks & repair them and service it.

If not then it could be the sw. or a wireing problem but i'd look at the sw. first.

How do i jumper it ? I know that there is no freon. In the system. So that's my problem. But I want to make sure that when the switch is in the on postion the comperssor actually locks up and starts pumping.

Thanks

To jumper the press. sw. just take a piece of wire about 2.5" long strip both ends and insert them into the connector cavity's

I reccomend not runing the eng. when doing this cuz you may cause damage to the compressor. If the sys. is sound you should be able to hear the clutch click when you turn it on place the Ign. key into the Assy position and turn the A/C on & off a few times.

If you dont hear anything then the clutch may be bad that's why i said to hook up a test light @ the compressor that way you know there's power or not.
