Big Block Intake Question
Hi all,
I am having my factory 402BB rebuilt soon. Although I am having some internal mods done for more horsepower I would like to maintain a stock look. I now have a line on a intake taken off a 1972 Chevelle SS LS3 454cu engine. At a first glance they look Identical. The intake will be about 100 dollars for me to purchase. Can anyone comment on if this would be a good intake over the factory one I have already. Do you think there would be much of an increase in horsepower? How about the price is that a bit high? Thank you

If you want to run an iron intake for the stock look, find one of the high rises from 68 and earlier. I think Desert Rat (forgot his new name) just had one offered on the parts board a week or so ago. I run one on my 402, with mild cam & good exhaust.
I have a 454 with the same basic specs, only the Edelbrock Performer QJET model. I realize there is 50 more cu, but wow what a difference. The 454/Performer feels like 200 more hp. |

I definitely would not pay $100.00 for one of those intakes. I probably wouldn't pay $20.00. You will not gain anything over your current intake. The LS3 is a lower performance BB. Like PICKMUP said, if you want the stock look then you will need to find one of the high rise intakes to gain any performance. If it were me and I wanted a stock look then I would buy a modern design aluminum intake and paint it orange. Most people will never know the difference.

I have one that I would sell you but the shipping to Canada would be killer. That thing has got to be over 35 lbs. Try to find one locally first.
