my buddy nuked his rear end

kinda a funny story, a good lesson to be learned here i think, for the younger crowd anyways...tonight after work a friend was jackin around in his 94 chevy 4x4 and somehow managed to explode his rear diff, i went down at looked at it and right in the center of the cover there is a gash about an inch wide from top to bottom, about 10 inches long total, what the heck cause that gash? im guessing osmething flew apart but has anyone ever heard of anything like this happeneing? i feel for him but he is the kinda guy that has to show off whenever he can...i guess it serves him right

i have some friends i went 4 wheelin with once a month till it got to the point i spent more time fixing guys stupid problems (4wd wont engage, lock outs wont turn) stuff that should have been checked before driving 60 miles to wellsville to run
anyhow we were just about done for the day so me and my brother in law decided to leave to get out before dark left a group of 6 to play, one guy who has a serious right foot problem decided to do some hill climbin couldnt make it the first time so the second time uses a little more r.f. and the rear explodes thru the diff cover. had to limp it out and lucky one of the other guys had a trailer. just glad i left when i did!!

Ouch Derek....sounds expensive

I'm still not a rear expert yet, but i do have a nack for wearing them out.....maybe the ring gear came back wards and chewed a hole in the cover

Look in the glove box. On the sticker you will find G80. That stands for Gov Lock aka Granade Locker. Now you know why it got that name.

I'm a big 10 bolt hater. I really think they suck. I poped one in a OPEN company van. It came apart at 30k. It was not abused. 90% hwy miles.
