The Tesla looks like a high school shop project. Of all the Tesla vehicles, this is one that probably won't sell very well. Certainly not when you compare it to a nice-looking Rivian pickup, or even an F150 Lightning EV.

I will never purchase a car/truck that I could have designed.
I am an EV fan, however.
I routinely drive 235-miles one way.
$5 to get there and $1.80 to get home.
Electricity is less inexpensive there.
That's less than a penny and a half, per mile, average.

At, let's say, $3.40/gallon, $6.80 would buy 2 gallons of gasoline. So your average is 235 eMPG, right? What kind of stations do you use? Brand, equipment, or whatever? And what are their charging speeds and cost per kWh? I guess speed doesn't really matter if you plug-in at work or at home. Sounds like an ideal situation for an EV.

We may have an EV in our future. It would work great for 75% of my wife's driving, but currently her car is the one we take on road trips, typically in the southwest, where charging stations are few and far between. In fact, EVs on the highways we travel are almost non-existent except when we're close to towns.

Imagine you lived in Wenatchee where electricity is 3 cents per KWH.
My daughter has a Tesla Model 3 Performance and her bill only went up like
$5.00 a month. She commutes about 40 miles per day.

Idk why anyone tries to justify an EV with their savings in fuel. When you factor in the price difference of an EV compared to an economy car, how much money are you really saving? Are you saving money at all? Sorry but these teslas are hideous. Idc what your mileage is. I wouldn’t have it if you gave it to me.

I have other cars "with soul".
My Love my LS1 C10 has 354hp at the wheels buy my EV is faster, much faster.
Love them both.

My maintenance for the first year, on the EV, was $20 to fix a flat.
Next year, the manufacture suggests I replace the cabin air filter.
I have done the math. After about 40 or 50K the costs are even and go down after that.
My EV never needs a transmission repair, oil change or new O2 sensors.
I just had the oil changed on my Tahoe, at the dealer. Came back with a recommended $2400 in sales pitch stuff. One of the biggest advantages it not having to put up with that BS.


I do most my driving in the area, like most people.
A trip to the store is like eight cents.

I say EV’s are cool although not for me, they have there place for some. Not the majority. Without the innovation we would be a stagnant place of existence.

Ain't that the truth! My wife's last two cars were Infiniti SUVs, and we got the first few oil changes for free. But starting at around 15K miles, the dealers (I used two of them over the years) would text me saying the car needed a bunch of services, even if the owner's manual showed them due at 30K-75K. And the prices were off-the-charts crazy -- usually $900-$1,100 total!

She now has a Kia Telluride, which blows away both the Infinitis. And so far the dealer service department hasn't done anything but change the oil & filter and thank us for our business. Apparently they didn't get the e-mail about building profit through unnecessary, overpriced maintenance.

My wife and youngest son have Souls, and I have a Forte. The dealer's service department has never tried to hustle anything on us, unlike the local Toyota dealer. Those guys were nothing short of predatory.

Many EV owners have forgotten that in 2025 you all will be start paying back into the highway road tax. It will be interesting to see how fast these vehicles are sold.

I would not recommend towing with an EV.
I would not recommend an EV if you can't charge at home.
I would not recommend an EV if you live where it gets below 0.

I do pay a higher registration fee for an EV.

I guess I only want others to know how crazy efficient they are.

We got free charging at work. A friend of mine drove an electric Fiat 500 and what he saved in gas more than covered the lease ;-)

What strikes me as funny is that Teslas are built at the same Fremont plant where my '68 C/10 Stepside and '67 K/10 Suburban were built.

My electric rate is .098 per KWH . Plus a delivery charge that usually averages higher than the cost of the power and goes up the more we use . I have nothing against EVs but I doubt I’ll ever own one . Specially that ugly “truck”

Update my electric usage was $35 for the month of November . Delivery was $142 dollars and a bunch of other tax’s added on top . Real rip off if you ask me

Ok, don't throw rocks but 95% of our (wife and I) driving is under the 80% safe limit of our Bolt EV - max 230 but 88% charge is about 203 miles. With Ohio's added registration fee (for road usage) - insurance is a wash, it cost me 15.5 cents per KW at home. My 240v charger which cost me $300 - I installed - charges 30 miles each hour. I get over 4.1 miles per KW - about 12.5 cents per mile. No oil changes and no gas stations. A car getting about 30 miles per gallon is about 28 cents per mile canceling out near equal items.

We drive it a lot - it excels on short trips compared to firing up an ICE. Yep I still have an XT6 Cad and a Duramax truck. I will keep the 2500HD but someday I would like to get a Lyriq only for a car.

Using commercial charging stations puts the cost a little less than gas. The chargers around here are 35 cents per KW but are a hassle.

To store commercial solar power, I say charge during the daylight if you can and the Tesla is an ugly truck. I am on a coop and electricity is the same rate all the day.

Forget oil, gas, solar, wind, or natural gas for the electric, I save money and that is what will sell anything.

I drive my '69 1500 to work on the daily.
One of my work buddies just bought a cyber truck.
another one just got a military surplus diesel humvee for some reason.
Parked all next to each other in the work parking lot, it makes for a pretty good photo among in a sea of shiny RAM 2500s.


I put solar panels on our house a couple years ago, so whenever my wife needs a new car, I'll buy an EV so I can power it for free, which I would love.
But my commute is 3 miles a day, and I like driving this old truck, so I'm going to just keep on enjoying my good ol' gettin-around truck for my daily ride. It still just costs me one tank of gas every few weeks at that rate.
Lots of options out there and you gotta just do what works for you, and hopefully enjoy it!
