Venders stretching the truth about "original"
Don't you hate when vendors describe a part as "original" or just like original or other wording to indicate it is a replica of a factory part? I know I am picky but I am sure other more serious restorers must be pulling there hair out with this stuff. Here is a picture of an American Auto wire harness that runs from the firewall to the rear of the truck. Same firewall integrated grommet plug, but the wire used is 4 individual strands taped together every 8 inches or so. The original is a 4 strand ribbon wire. I ended up using a rear section of the original 52 year old factory wire and plug. I cleaned up the plug with simple green and water. The wire insulation has harden some but still pliable enough to not crack and brake if careful. I spliced in the new harness rear section onto the old harness to repair the section burnt in the fire. Luckily both ends of the harness uses the same plug so I removed old harness and flipped so the visible section will have correct appearance. The rear end of the factory harness will have a piece of the AAW spliced on the end to plug into the rear harness. That section is on the frame under the bed so not visible.

Re: Venders stretching the truth about "original"
My daughter and I are finding a lot of stuff like this. And from well reputed companies recommended here. We ordered a new dome light kit that looked great, at first glance. What was odd was that they had the wire colors crossed. Had we plugged it in directly it would have blown fuses. Simple enough to correct, but frustrating none the less.

Re: Venders stretching the truth about "original"
The price of that american autowire cable you show has gone up exponentially in price in recent years also. I'm 99% sure I got one 5-7 years ago and it was not the 4 wires taped together, but the 4 wire flat type.
I was recently looking at buying another but the price is outrageous and the old original ones usually clean up really nice like you show. |

Re: Venders stretching the truth about "original"
for that type of "quality" I'd rather make my own harness. F all these shady companies slinging Chinese trash at made in USA prices. My only wish is that the masses catch on and stop supporting cash grab companies that don't care about anything other than the bottom line, but we all know that'll never happen.

Make sure it is copper wire also. Seems like there is a lot of aluminum wire being used that is copper clad. Junk to say the least.
