Easy down tailgate

Has anyone put one of these on their 73-80 tailgate? These things are kind of heavy and over time a tailgate assist would help. I see that if these struts are put on it changes how much weight the tailgate can handle. So pro and con to installing on truck. Has anyone done this and modified it to work with a cable?

I just watched the video on this and was very interested, until it said that some trimming of the tailgate is required. Shot that idea down real fast.

It looks cool but I haven't found these tailgates to be heavy enough to see the advantage. Plus these tailgates make great seats and weight carrying bed extensions.

I watched that video and that is cool but a lot of work. I started looking at internet and searched torsion bar tailgate. Well easylift tailgate came up on Amazon but I only see it fits 94 and up Chevy trucks. Basically a torsion bar that runs along the bottom of tailgate. I still might buy and see if I can make it work, it is only 40 bucks. Are 1994 tailgates heavier or lighter then a 79 tailgate?
