47-55.1 Some assembly required 48 Chev 3100.

I've been slow moving on the redo on my 48 because of life getting in the way for the past few years but as I am already registered for a bucket list event in July I need to dig all the parts out of the shed and put the 1000 piece red puzzle together.

Yesterday I picked up a major piece of the plan. I had put it out that I was looking for a cab on a local car folk FB group and a local rodder Gave me a cab that came with a cab he bought for a yard art project.

The cab is rust free and solid but has a lot of dents to deal with. Only one is an issue that will take serious work but the lack of rust repairs helps a lot.

Now for the plan, work the dents out of this cab and get it ready to set on the frame that is under my 48. Get that frame cleaned up, install the MII front end that I have for it, rework the rear spring hangers a bit and C notch the frame so the rear can sit where I want it.

It will get the 292 I have for it but I may not use the 5 speed and stick with the Saginaw 3 speed. It works, the driveshaft fits and doing that saves a lot of time and maybe some money.

It's probably an unbuild in a way as it won't be chopped or have suicide doors that I have now but will have working roll up windows and white walls and hubcaps.

beltline doesn't look too bad either. some get pretty rusty there.

The Beltline is nice. No rust out on the floors that I saw yesterday and most of the dents may have happed after the person who pulled it off the frame sold it to the guy who gave it to me. It came with a 100 dollar 48 or so Ford cab he bought. There are some pieces with it that I don't need and if I sell them he will get half of that back just because.

First thing I need to do is get those abused fenders off and do as complete a go over as I can and then get way back in the shed that collapsed under snow and dig out the best two doors I have that came with one piece windows.

Then after removing the seat frame and putting it in a safe place and getting the gas tank out it is attack the dents one at a time.

careful digging around in that collapsed shed. you just never know what is holding what else from collapsing.

Thanks for the offer but about all I need are stuff that you either have to have someone do (upholstery) or are things that have to be bought new anyhow such as tires, engine gaskets, cab rubber and that sort of thing.

It got snowed on last night. Only an inch and it has pretty well melted off.

I'll dig out the two best and that what will go on it. If I wanted to use 51 vent wing doors I have two of the nicest 51 doors you will ever find that I can't even get a low ball offer on when I advertise them.

I'm trying to figure out if there is room in a 20 ft shipping container to do most of the work on it in right now. I'm buying one in the next couple of weeks just to empty the house out of stuff that we need but don't need in the house as this house my grand parents moved into in 1924 when they got married has no storage space. I might try to do a twofer.

it's been a long time since it was red and it has too many issues to deal with. The major one being that the way I did the suicide door hinges I can't put glass in the doors. There are just too many 1980/82 mistakes and the firewall has to be replaced .

This is about expediency to have a Running and safe to drive truck by July 1.

I've been collecting parts for 30 years for my chopped, sectioned and stretched cab build but life has gotten in the way on doing the cab.

The plan:
the frame I have under the 48 now with either the MII style or the Jag XJ front suspesion but I am leaning towards the Jag.

C notch the rear spring to get it a bit lower in the back and check over the front hangers for the rear springs real close.

Maybe swap from the Nova 10 bolt I have to a 3.7 late 70's Camaro rear.

15 inch steel wheels that are either off a 75 Monte Carlo or a 76 Cad Seville.

White wall tires with hubcaps that I have stashed away .

The 292 I have resealed painted gray and decorated up with the finned aluminum trinkets I have with the cast headers and maybe the 4 barrel intake.

Either the Saginaw 3 speed that is in it now or the AX-15 out of a 96 Dodge Dakota with the Novak adapter depending on rear axle.

The only body modification to the cab being filling the gas filler neck hole.

Pretty much a stock interior but I may carry the seat cushion down to my local guy and have it done up.

If I get it in shape good enough for paint I might talk to the guys in one of the rebuild shops in town about shooting it in pieces as they turn out late model rebuilds that look better than factory cars that have never been wrecked.

I'm just flat tired of going to events and taking photos and not having my truck to enter.

i am a personal fan of the ax-15! they just work, are easy to get parts for, and easy to rebuild, all win.

People do lots of stuff with containers. you could place them side by side, do whatever structural is required, then cut the walls out of the middle to have a double wide, not that wide inside otherwise, if you plan to do body work on a cab. maybe repairing components like doors or fenders could be done inside one. juyst a side note, they get pretty damp inside if your weather is warm-cold-warm. we had one attached to our mechanics shop, with a door sized opening cut in the side of the shop and the container, and found it rained inside there sometimes due to condensation forming on the cold steel walls and roof. you could spray foam the walls and roof to help but then it becomes a smaller container inside. if you have a humid climate but warm enough to work inside without heat then that changes it I guess.

I plan on buying one in the next couple of weeks to stick our excess out of the house in as there is just not enough storage space in this house for us. Right now I am seriously thinking about getting a two fer deal. I'd have to move stuff out of the way next to my garage for one but that would either let me clear the garage out or use the container as a work shop.
I need to move my boat, a van that I am using for storage and a camper and some osb out of the way to set the first container but that isn't that big of a deal.

I want to get the work done on the cab first and get it to the prep for paint or real nice primer or hot rod flatz and then attack the chassis.
