Ebay is worse than it used to be.
I purchased some LS lifters that were advertised as GM take-outs.
I know about the China LS7 lifters that fall apart and sell for 1/4 of the going price of a good set. It took me a long time to get to the installation. Here is a picture of what I found. As you can see, the flat is machined at 90 degrees from anything functional. I stay away from FleeBay for the most part. I love it when they say "I purchase in bulk" so you don't get the GM box shown in the picture. Feeling stupid on this one. I have more wins than loses, but buyer beware. |

Re: Ebay is worse than it used to be.
Glad that you are starting this post.
I have been a E B bay customer since 2007. I have been lucky up until last year. I learned to watch the ratings. I learned to do this. I learned to do that. I had a Great track record If you let your Guard down once . Bam. My Bad purchase was with an Aluminum Radiator.

Re: Ebay is worse than it used to be.
In my build thread On the 71, I documented the big purchases as well as receipts at home. My $435 Champion radiator came from Southern Ky Classics. Ebay sellers had them for about 30 bucks less. I opted to deal with the local company. 1 year warranty. It lasted 14 months and bam, no help at all. champion would not stand behind it, SKC, wouldnt either so I was SOL. Same as if I had bought it auction site style. I really don't think the ebay sellers are any different than US dealers. The same Chinese crap gets sold across counters everywhere 24/7. Until someone is held accountable, it will only worsen. And add this, US automakers are putting the same quality parts on new vehicles and we wonder why they fail. All the auto parts chains are limiting lifetime warranties and can only sell what they are provided with.
My practices have changed a little. I now research manufacturers more than I used to. I try to buy parts I can see and hold. About a 60-70% success rate.

Per the comment, why purchase used lifters? They were advertised as new take-outs from a crate engine. Yes, a bad decision. |

Re: Ebay is worse than it used to be.
I've been scammed a couple times even on amazon. I now research the seller before ordering anything. If it has recent bad reviews and or no reviews I move along. The money back guarantee I've had to go through these websites to get my money back were awful to say the least. These places work so hard on creating counterfeits that look like the real thing, if they were to put their time in building their own quality product, they can make a legitimate business.
We recently got into climbing and a lot of the quick connects and carabiners I've seen other climbers use were chinese rip-offs of legitimate carabiners. They also bought their belayed devices on Amazon as well. These all have been known to be counterfeit from China. I will not let anybody belay me except for my family with the safety equipment we bought locally at a small little store downtown. I'd rather spend more money to know I have something legitimate rather than to always question it.
