E-brake mechanism rebuild

Has anyone here taken apart their E-brake mechanism or rebuilt theirs? I want to take mine apart, but it does not appear it is possible since it looks like the moving parts are pressed in with some kind of pins or clips of some kind. I am sure I could beat it apart, but getting it back together might be alot harder.

Thanks!

Joe, is it identical to my 73 pictured above? When and where did you purchase it?

Ever thought about going with a hand brake?

I have a manual trans so I already have stuff there.
I thought about going with something like this because I like the hand brakes so much more then the foot brakes.

OK folks, I need some help.

I called my local dealer, and he ran the part in his computer...it turns out the part is discontinued. The part is called e-brake pedal or e-brake pedal assembly, and the GM part number is 362280. I asked if it was the same as the 80's model and if it was interchangeable...he said if it was interchangeable (and still available), it would show up on the system. Now keep in mind he did a search for a 1973 C10...I did not ask him to search for a 1985 or whatever, so I cannot verify they are the same for all years.

Joe, can you post a pic of yours you just purchased? I would like to see if they are indentical or not.

Also, I need the front e-brake cable (the one that attaches to the mechanism), and that too is unavailable (I did not get a part number).

Would someone outside MN be willing to try their GM dealer to see if they can find or get these? When inquiring, please be sure to tell them it is a 73...that way I KNOW I am getting the correct part.

If it turns out someone can get these two things, I would really like to get them and would like to work out arrangements to do so.

Thanks!

Jeff, I didn't just buy it. It was a while ago, so maybe I said that wrong above. I ordered it for my 84, and the part number is:15549108, 19.10 on GMpartsdirect.

Here are two pics. Jeff, if you want them bigger, I'll send them to your email.

How do you know if this part needs replacing or if you simply need a new cable alone....

Joe, it does look identical...I am going to try and call the dealer again and see if they have one for a 85 or whatever...and see what they come up with.

If they can't help, would you mind seeing if the dealer by your house tells you the same story? Check first for a 73..but if they say no see if they have a 85.

I might need a couple measurements when I get home, just to be sure they are the same size and what not. I'll let you know.

Thanks again Joe for the pics and help!
