180 - However I recently spoke with an old friend who has been teaching automaotive and diesel technology his whole life. He works for a heavy equipment sales and rental firm in TX now. He states that engine oil analysis that his firm has conducted indicates that a higher temp t-stat like a 190 and above help the oil reach a temp that burns off condensation in the block and in the oil. He stated that optimally oil needs to reach 200 degrees and that a minimum of a 190 t-stat is needed to accomplish this. I still run the 180 but I find his info interesting.
