Stock 350 from 87 Suburban for sale

Well I thought I would throw this out to you guys. A few weeks ago a local yard got in a really nice 87 suburban that had been wrecked. I thought I could use the tranny from it. They said they would sell me the tranny and the 350 for 230 bucks, both worked. I then found out over the weekend that I couldn't use the tranny for my project (needed the short shaft 700R), but they had already made the pull. They told me that they would either charge me 75 bucks for the pull and I could walk away from the deal. Or I could pay for the engine or tranny. I opted to buy the engine for 200 bucks. I figured it was better than throwing away the 75 bucks. If you guys need one, I'm willing to sell it, as I don't really need it now. It is a stock 350- not sure how many miles- either 77k or 177k. The engine has with it an AC compressor, powersteering pump, air pump and alternator. It has the fuel injected intake, but someone got the TBI unit before I bought it. You can have it all for what I have into it. Just want to get my 200 bucks back, otherwise it'll eventually wind up in my 63. I'll stand behind the engine if you're not satisfied. Can also send more pics if interested. You have to pick this one up.

Uh.. All 2wd 700r4's are the same. The only difference in the output shafts on these comes from it either being 2wd or 4wd.

yeah I know, I needed the 4wd one. Didn't realize they were different until I asked someone on the board. By the time I got back to the yard about it, it had already been pulled.

Yeah I knew it was a nice engine. That's why I figured that I'd rather buy it than let it go. Then I bought an edelbrock 1904 this week. I think my wife's a little annoyed with all the money I've spent, so I thought I'd just see if there was any interest.

Tim, there were no roller cams in the TBI' truck engines.
the TBI injected early 90's Impala/cop car engines did have a tiny roller in them. the one piece seals were used from 86 -up. DAVE

crossy,

Did I read somewhere that the 87 and up 350s produced more hp than the earlier ones?

honestly don't remember i sure it was though. I think the 87 TBI was rated at 200 where as an 86 LS9 350 was rated at 165. I don't put a lot of stock in factory ratings though, The 86 350 was only rated 5HP more than than an 305!! we know better. Now these days the HP numbers are meaning things again. a 96 Vortec 350 was rated 30 or so higher than an 86 454! you have to watch at what RPM they are rating them at also and of course more important was torque when your talking 4000# and up vehicles. Burbs are real heavy compared to trucks. also in 87 the rear end ratios started to get better as standard equip. instead of always optional. the low first gear in a 700R4 was also a plus.
Have you seen the HP ratings of newer trucks - see it's important again. incidentally, the new kid on the block, Nissan Titan with 325 HP regularly spanks the 345 HP Dodge in the magazine tests. Oh well i still ain't buying one. DAVE

I know what you mean about the Nissans. I was looking at one today and thinking "wow they really are starting to look like a nice truck." Almost felt unAmerican just thinking it :D
