dang holdups!
well, i didnt get the engine in today. found out that the flexplate needed shimmed. so we get a shim, but its still not enough, so we need to get another really thin one. but, by the time we found that out, the only store that had them around were closed(napa).
i did get everything else that needed to be done, done. new motor mounts hurt my knuckle though |

Just be patient Eric, you have waited this long, another day or so isn't going to kill you. It will all fall into place, and you will be glad you took your time and did it right.

There were some small blocks in 4x4s that even GM had to shim the starter to make it work.

the starter doesnt need a shim.
the reason i'm thinking the flexplate needs shimmed, is because its a TCI one and they state that it is extra think. plus the starter is a nice aftermarket one, and it will work with either 153 or 168 teeth flexplates(i have a 168) |

Are you shimming the flexplate or the starter? I've never heard of shimming the flexplate. I would never put shims on the flexplate.

i don't understand why you are shimming it either. you know the gear on the starter is not supposed to engauge your flexplate until you crank it right? and that if the torque converter is pressed all the way toward the tranny when you put the motor in there will be a tiny bit of space between the converter and tranny and you just pull the TC out a little bit till it touches the flexplate. i just can't see a reason for shimming the flexplate

if i were to start it the way it is in the picture, the starter gear would pull in, like it is in the picture, and not be out of the way of the flexplate, so it would still be hitting it. yes the flexplate is on the correct way. it was in the starter instructions that it needs .0065 or .065 or something like that of space between the flexplate and starter teeth. the way it was(and is in those pictures) there is no any space between them. its fixed now, and is spaced properly. |
