new guy
hey...I have a 51 chevy PU...when it sits level in the sun the gas drips out from around the gas cap...the only solution I have found so far is to park that side on curb so it is higher than the other side. Is there a real fix to this?

so I tried a new cap, and that seemed to work for awhile..you can see the gas in the pic..then it will drip out from the cap..

Welcome.
I thought that when the pump shut off you were not too pull the triger again, as that ment it was full. Looks to me like it is real FULL, and even a new vented gas cap would NOT help !!

$38 + ride for a sending unit and you will know how much gas is in the tank.

it looks real full, because the sun is shining and that's when it seems to rise..when the sun goes down and the tank cools off, the gas goes back down..
and ya, I do need to get anew sending unit..

QUOTE] That's what happens when gasoline is heated, it expands. One thing that will help is to fill it before you go somewhere, instead of after. That way you burn off some and leave some room for expansion. Something else you can do is keep track of how far you drive before fillup. Stock, these trucks get about 12 mpg. Fuel tank holds about 16 gal, iirc. That means you can drive about 200 miles on a tank, play it safe and figure 150 miles between fillups. I had a van that I drove without a gauge for 3 or 4 years, I didn't want to drop the tank to swap the sending unit.
