Machine Shops
Anybody here know of or reccomend any machine shops here in East Texas? My 307 still runs good but is using some oil and I think it is time to freshen it up a bit.
Bye the way, how many times can you rebuild an entire engine? For example, if you were not going to bore it and have it balanced each time it is built. I have heard that engines are only good for one rebuild then the block is trash. Is that true?

Haven't used them yet, but I've heard good things from several sources about Thompson Performance in Henderson.

If you aren't boring out the cylinder bores or bearing journals the block will be fine. After enough running you will have to bore out the cylinder bores or you will have piston slap and excessive oil consumption with standard sized pistons. Higher nickel content blocks are more resilent to wear.

Bill Spence in Sherman is good. I've had many people recommend him. He
rebuilt a 350 in a '89 I had a few years ago. If you just want a basic engine you should look into getting a longblock. I just replaced my engine with a remanufactured engine from Jasper engines. Couldn't beat the price for an engine with a 3yr warrenty delivered to your door in two days.

Man thats great jimfulco, I work in Henderson!!! I'll run them by and talk with them. I really want to keep my truck as original as possible and the 307 has lasted over 30 years without a hiccup! I guess the 307 block has only average nickel content--anyone know???

I know of a very good machine shop where i get all my stuff done over in greenville. Pm if you need details. Reasonable price full remanufacutred/rebuild.
