Scary Ride!!!
While on my way home this evening I was driving along at about 45 when my truck decided it wanted to be sideways. By the grace of God no one hit me but it sure was an interesting ride.
It was dark but it looks like one of the u-bolts holding the right lower control arm broke. I just wanted to know if this is a common problem and if there is anything in particular that I should be looking at in the way of collateral damage? Is the shaft likely to be toast now? I sure don't want this to happen again so I guess I will go ahead a replace all of the u-bolts. BTW, I am pretty new to the board but have gotten alot of good info from you guys already. Glad you are here. My truck is a 67 LWB 1/2 ton Fleetside. Needs alot of work but has been fun so far. |

Sounds scary.....haven't heard of this happening before....but I'll bet mine gets a better look over.......

breakage
I had this happen to me at the race track. I figured it was just from to many ups and downs with the front tires. Metal fatigues so I suggest that everybody replace all fo these. It's not like it is difficult or expensive.

Dang, never heard of this before Now I'm afraid to drive my truck, I'm pretty sure that mine are the original set.
I know what I will be doing over spring break...

its happened to me before but luckily i wasnt going in a heavily populated area , mine just snapped and dumped the a$$end in the dirt , actually my trailing arm snapped in to and folded out , ever have that happen ? , like i said i was fine adn the body never got hurt, you know these get over looked alot , you wouldnt believe th number of trucks i have seen that were being driven that had 3 out of 4 u bolts rusted clear through , i told the people about them that were driving them , its a more common problem than you hink it just gets overlooked alot

Never had that happen but I got some new one's with the front end rebuild kit MY WIFE BOUGHT..

Man that sucks. Hope you get it back together quickly. That 9/16's u-bolt upgrade kit mentioned in the attached link sounds like a good investment.
BTW.... welcome from Garland (& my parents live in Nevada Tx.).
