A 425 in My C10...
Well to start the story off right, I went to buy this...
http://home.webifyit.ca/pictures/_NE...eteor_0521.JPG Which I did ($1000cad, safetied, running...good deal ) Anyhow, the guy had a 455 Olds Super Rocket in the garage, at least we think that's what it is...we snapped some pics of the numbers we can find on it, and I was hoping someone here could tell me if it is a 455 Olds Super Rocket, or if it's just got that air cleaner on it. Pics of the engine.... http://home.webifyit.ca/pictures/_NE...ngine_0514.JPG The number on the block looks like it says 389241D(?) http://home.webifyit.ca/pictures/_NE...ngine_0512.JPG http://home.webifyit.ca/pictures/_NE...ngine_0513.JPG And this is a pic of the number on the intake... http://home.webifyit.ca/pictures/_NE...ngine_0516.JPG And the trans http://home.webifyit.ca/pictures/_NE...ngine_0515.JPG My second question, if it is a 455 Olds Super Rocket, how hard is it to put in an '86 C10...that currently houses a meager 305. Hmm...I'm thinking that engine is a 425 Super Rocket...I think that casing number might actually read 389244D

Gibble,
Why not a 454? Pretty easy to mount one of those, as they came from the factory that way. I've got one in my driveway to prove it! Brian |

Im pretty sure under all the sludge is a TH400 BOP bellhousing. Is there any way to get a picture of the other side of the transmission? Should be a small tag on it. With that I can see what I can find out about what it came out of.

Mounting it sounds pretty simple, but what about the driveshaft, will I need a shorter or longer one? |

no, it could kill the milage number, meaning it goes up. since the engine makes more power, it has to do less work. less work = better economy. shouldnt need anything buy a TH400 driveshaft.

Get that Chevy paint off that engine. THe 60 and 70's Rocket motors were gold.

LOL well, I am going to try and see if I can use my uncles shop for :30 minutes or so after I get that engine so I can pressure wash it and drain the fluids.
His shop is 10 minutes from where I am picking it up, so hopefully he's around. And since it's winter here, and I don't have a garage, I'd like it fairly clean so I can take it into the basement and tear it down for a rebuild and some paint before it goes in the truck. |

Ok, so my next question about this engine is, what kind of HP and TQ numbers should it have...roughly?
