Steering Wheel

Are these wheels a total direct bolt on, or do you need adapters for anything like the horn, etc.?

They bolt right on, but i didn't have the horn mech, so i had to do a little modification

If I rember right the horn contact is diffrent but you should be able to get the right one at any auto parts store in the help Items. I know Auto zone has them.

You just need to run a wire from your turn signal cancelling cam to the horn button . No big deal i soldered a wire to my horn contact not for a wheel like that but i have had one of them on a truck in the past just too big for me so i got a grant GT .

If you take the stock turn signal cancelling cam out you can jab a wire into the area where the original contact is then get it to come out the back side wich is away from the acutaly contact area and solder it to a little brass tab .. Kinda hard to explain If i have an extra one around ill snap a pic of it.

I have one of those wheels in mine, a direct bolt in. I don't have the horn hooked up yet though

Horn hook up

Here you go. Use your stock horn contact. It works better than the late models.
Pull the pin out.

Cut a "J" shaped groove using Dremel or drill.

The tip threads right into the "J" groove, like the late models. It is spring loaded, so that makes contact with your stock piece...and the other end of the wire has a spade that plugs into the late model horn button. No pics of that end. It is too simple to show.

That's pretty much how I did mine, but instead of cutting the J in the slip ring, i just shaved the nipples off the sring loaded contact piece and shoved it into the tube on the slip ring. It stays in there no problem and works great.

Longhorn man, is there a way to add the J-groove idea to your FAQ post?

I am not saying your idea isn't good enough, but it is nice to have the different ideas all in the same post for reference.

Instead of cutting a "J" groove, Just use a female Bullet connector and slide it over the contact!!! Simple it doesn't take five min. to do. Also if you have a van tilt column you will have to file the aluminum inside the wheel to get it to go down on the shaft all the way.

Interesting, both my trucks have van tilts, and steering wheels like in the photo above, never had to file anything down...same when i installed one on a stock non tilt truck column, a simple bolt on.

I'm in the same predictament fellas - I installed the same steering wheel. With the stock slip ring installed I can get the steering wheel seated far enough down to get the bolt started. Any ideas? I also need that little wire if anyone happens to have an extra. Thanks, Jim.

Is it possible that installation could be different pending on what the wheel came out of (i.e astro van, c1500, or S10). I have no idea what this one came out of. I'll take it back off tomorrow and give it a second look.

Actually, i think they are all the same in the hub and the wheel's frame. I think only the outer vinal skin is all that differs.
I can't see GM making one that is so clost to the other yet need a whole different assembly. Same on the columns too...they use the same part number in every aplication they can get away with.

because not everyone has the same opinion and they think they look good. i think the grant ones are ugly but alot of people like them. its just their 'bag'
