5 speed granny low?
I was glancing through my GM restoration packet and came across a couple tranny's that caught my eye. The known sm465 has a granny low of 6.55 to 1 and really spaced out 1,2, and 3 gear. There is a trannys made by New Process models 540cl, 540cd, 541cl, and 541cd that are 5 speed granny lows. Their granny low ranges from 6.05 on the 540 CD to 7.41 on the 540CL. 2nd through 5th are synchronized and are a lot closer together with 5 gear still being a direct drive. Are the trannys as strong as the 465 and were they made for 1/2 ton through 1 tons or for commercials trucks? I think they would be an awesome tranny due to their 4 daily driving speeds and the fact their shift pattern is made for daily driving. Look at the shift pattern, normal exept for granny being out of the way.
