1/2 ton to 3/4 ton rear swap
Greetings all, this is my first post on this particular forum. I have a 72 long wheelbase pickup it has straight springs in rear like the later model trucks. I would like to pull a gooseneck trailer with this truck and would like to swap the rear axle and posibly the front end as well to 3/4 ton. any ideas ? what donor vehicle should i be looking for . is this a practicle swap ?

The frame, if I'm not mistaken, is also stronger on a 3/4 truck. It would be best to swap trucks if possible.

If you go 3/4 ton your going to have to move your spring perches in on the new axel. The 14bolt or Dana 60's perches are wider than the 10bolt's.

I can't vouch for other years but 71-72 3/4 ton axles will bolt up to your existing 1/2 ton springs with no alteration if you are using 71-72 3/4 ton axles, and if you are talking about a 4x4. I assume you have a 4x4 since you spoke of changing the front axle.
I have compared the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton frames and they appear to be the same. If they are different, it is not obvious. Jim |

funny! I am looking to go to a 1/2 ton suspension. I currently have a 71 3/4. but I need a 6x5.5 lugs. that is the entire reason I am switching is for this space. I wish I could keep my setup but I cant. the deal of the wheels is to great!
