Newbie Checking in....
Just wanted to drop in and say hello (didn't see a newbies forum) so I figured this was the next best one.
Just got a '70 GMC from a friend, that in all honesty is in need of some TLC. Paying him $650 for the truck with no motor (he's keeping the motor for another project). Overall plans for the truck for the next year is to make it a sound daily driver, then after that it will become the next project vehicle for me. Most likely with a frame off resto, and all kinds of upgrades. I have a 700R4 tranny that needs a rebuild to be ready for work, and am trying to source a TBI 350 for cheap from a local junkyard (carburators and I don't get along ). Heres some pics for your viewing enjoyment. The red Xtreme in the background of the first pic is mine as well. As soon as the '70 is up and running somewhat reliably it is getting a complete "redo" of sorts.....Going from a 2.2 4cyl 5spd 2wd setup to a Vortec 5.3/4L60E/AWD setup....should make for an interesting truck I think. Also theres links in my sig for the gallery on both trucks. |

Welcome from Texas. I also obtained a 71 swb and own an 2001 extreme. Mine has the 4.3L v6, would love to put a 350 in there. Good luck on your project.

The '70 is most likely going to end up with a 6.0L/4L80E combo out of a newer 2500HD truck. That should provide enough power to pull around a 4k lb truck/trailer combo. I am seriously considering doing a MILD airbag setup on the suspension, in hopes that it will help with the trailering aspect of things, as well as adding a little weight carry capability. I am thinking that I will most likely go through the entire truck in a year or so and start the "resto" of sorts. I'm a big stickler for doing things RIGHT the first time, as well as making sure things are 100% done on each project. First mods I think are going to be a new seat, as well as a blazer gastank/marker light filler......I hate that tank being behind the seat very much badly. The front already has the 5-lug/disc brake conversion, as well as a new front sway bar. The buddy of mine that I am getting the truck from has the parts to replace the rear trailing arms/springs/axles to convert to a 5-lug back there as well. For some reason I have ALWAYS like this body style. even though the truck isn't worth much in it's present state, I'm feeling pretty motivated to get started on it, and make it ALOT nicer. I'm thinking paint is in it's near future as well. |
