GVWR 8500 or bigger please

I just got a new an 85 swb with 3/4 ton running gear and a 350/sm465/205 setup. Longtubes, 3", flowmasters, and dumps. Will not pass emmisions, trucks with gvwr 8500 and bigger are emmisions exempt and have a higher bumper law. I NEED a heavy 3/4 ton or 1 ton VIN and TITLE. If anyone asked I bought a cab and title for my tow vehicle. Please PLEASE Please help. I can't keep driving her w/o plates or not being titled. Please email me at JoeyDi84@msn.com if you don't want to post here.

You shouldn't have problems passing emissions with a mild 350. Should be able to even get it past the sniffer without cats. My carb'd 350 with a Q-Jet passed with 52HC and 0% CO, that was leaned out some though.

We had trouble with emissions on a our 78 G30, the place kept trying to tell us that it had to have cats but since it was a 1-ton vehicle emissions weren't required until later.

I agree. Loose that stupid mix control carb and ESC. Put HEI and about a 81 Quad on it. It will pass no problem. I HAVE got a 79 to pass the sniffer with no cats and it was not magic trick it was properly adjusted. I passed twice but the second time the guy actually looked to see if the cat was present.

It's also cheaper to fix it then it will be if you get nailed with a tampered VIN. Tampering with the VIN is a Felony in most places.

Cats do almost nothing if the vehicle is at full operating temp AND properly tuned. Cats are only cleaning up over rich condtions from cold and out of tune.

I'm just getting my '78 3/4 ton lwb titled and registered...now i'm worrying about emissions cause from what i could tell it wasn't built with emissions equipment....i don't want (and can't afford) to throw on cats and all the necessary equipment....will I be asked to do that?

First they can't test the truck when it has dumps, it has to have full exhaust to the rear or side of truck. And second, the truck is already parted together, the front clip off a 91 sub. and the bed off a 70 something, so swapping the vin I would have a resonable excuse. "I had 2 cabs and only one with a title and couldn't you know it, that one is all rusted out. This is a great cab but without a title." or "I rolled the truck and put this cab on it, used the original title."

You better check with the state. In the majority of states this is, as Grim said, a felony. Most states reissue a new "updated" (for lack of current better words) VIN for issues such as yours.
