69 camper ?s
today me an my dad finaly stoped and looked at a 69 chevy camper(president) that i have known about for a while
turns out the old folks that own it just bought a new camper and were planing on selling it, im going to go get it next week, cause there going on vactation and i didnt have my checkbook or my camera, but i got permision to go take pictures as soon as i get a chance, but till then ive got ome info about it, and i have questions its a non walkthrough so it has a standard pickup cab, its powered by a 350/350 and it has factory ac the spid says it has a 157 wheel base is that the wheel base of a longhorn? is there any market for selling the complete camper off of the truck? were campers 1tons or 3/4? and what are the differences

Re: 69 camper ?s
That`s the long C/30 cab`n`chassis platform.I don`t think there`s any kind of market, best left as is,used as built,IMO,and looking for what you want. Not sying someone wouldn`t want to buy the body...I would,if it was in solid condition. There`s the main problem...They were built-on-frame.I can`t imagine one lifting off w/o damage. How would you do it?I`m not sure,in perfect/new condition, they are structurally independant w/o the truck frame. What did you want to do with it?Want to trade a tow truck or it?
Please tell me you don`t just want the cab,

the cab is a deffinate plus on the thing because it only has a little rot in the front supports, and the rockers are getting bad, but thats an easy fix but that is not the reason i want it my ideas that im looking at doing with are to remove the camper, repair the rockers, and build a custom flatbed so i can use it as a parts getter and so my dad has a bigger truck to use at the farm while im away at college im thinking of swaping out the 350/350 and puting it a big block, probly a 454 so the truck wouldnt be under powered but this thing is still super nice and original, body and drivetrain wise, the camper is also in great shape but i really have no use for a camper im not sure what i would do with a tow truck, but i would deffinately like to own one

Re: 69 camper ?s
a longhorn is a 133 inch, not a 157.
That would be a one ton. |

Re: 69 camper ?s
I just wanted a tow truc, too. No problem finding uses either.
Most of those campers need alot of work,if not structurally comprimised. The truck under it makes for a great 1t survivor since it was driven with care and never really worked...all hiway miles, pretty much.I bought one, camper already stripped, and installed a new utility bed.I worked out of it for 12 years before retiring, mostly due to buying a new truck.I sold the bed, then the truck got made into a car hauler(stretched).Good luck.
