Seezed brakes, can't get drums off...HELP!
So after letting the cylinders in my 292 soak in mystery oil for many weeks me and my dad decided to put this rolling chassis in gear and give it a little tug to see if we could get her free. We tied a massive old tug boat rope to the front axel and my dads Silverado and he slowly began to toe the chassis. Well wouldn't you know the drivers front wheel and the passenger rear wheel are both dragging. So, I jacked it up take off wheel and tap the drum with mini sledge. After 10 minutes of tapping the thing is only hung up on top, I can see the whole drum wiggling but will not budge at the top. Same thing happens on the other wheel. Now without totalling destroying these drums how am I going to get them off?

should be an adjusting slot eeither in the backing plate or the drum itself you stick an adjusting toolk or screwdriver thru it and back off the star wheel of the adjuster to bring the shoes in to clear the drum

You can also cut the head off the pin that holds the shoes to the drum. That will allow you to pull ALL the guts out with the drum. Not for a newb if you need to see how it goes back together...

sometimes, the only way to remove them is to cut the head off of the retaining pins. They can be a booger.

Re: Seezed brakes, can't get drums off...HELP!
A while back I sprayed a rust busting compound into the drum and tried coating the pad/drum surface...they rusted together. I think that and a screwdriver to pry and a bfh allowed me to get it off.
