Popping or snapping sound when turning
My truck is a '70 with the original manual steering. The truck makes a snapping or popping sound whenever I turn the wheel at slow speeds or while stopped (parking lot). The sound is coming from somewhere under the dash and almost sounds like something is catching, then being forced past whatever the catch is.
Does this sound like a steering column bearing? My "gut" says upper bearing, but I'm curious if anyone here has had these same symptoms. Thanks!

Re: Popping or snapping sound when turning
Did you have someone turn the wheel? While the other person look so You can find where it was coming from.

No, only because it's not always consistent, but when it does happen it seems to be coming from right under the dash.

Re: Popping or snapping sound when turning
It sounds like the inside of your column is gummed up with 40+ years of dust and sand. Either tear it apart and clean the tube and bearings, or get another column. The popping is probably coming from the grime in the bearings.
