6x9 brackets for the cab corners?

Does anyone sell these? I want a setup that looks fairly stock to ward off any theifs when I buy some nice expensive 6 x 9s as well as door speakers.

Also - Does anyone know if they make delete plates for the stereo hole on the aluminum brushed dash bezels?

take a set of stock 4x10 brackets, and flip them, drivers side to passenger, passenger to driver. then you should be able to clearance them for 6x9s, or so i've heard. as for door speakers, dont do it! mount a pair in the dash where they belong.

Are 6x9s that much better than 4x10s?? Reason I ask is because I picked us a set of the brackets at a bone yard with the factory 4x10s (they're shot) and was going to replace them with 4x10s...but if 6x9s are better, then,....

I cut my 4x10 brackets to fit 6x9s.

Ken, 6x9s are better than 4x10s not only in design, but in availability too.

6 x 9s will outperform a 4 x 10 anyday, if you've got a good enough 6 x 9 with enough juice running to it, you can get them to perform like a small subwoofer.

How does a guy mount some speakers up front? I don't have any room under that dash for speakers...

You can put some 3.5" or 4"(maybe) speakers in the front left and right corners of the dashpad, they mount underneath.

3.5 at the max wont really hold anything bigger than that. You can get some good qaulity 3.5 with tweeters built in and some nice 6x9s you will have a good sounding system .

i put my 6/9's in the doors. they sound great! i didnt have any room behind my seat after i built a massive box back there so that was not an option for me. i also have 3 1/2 2 ways in the dash. i would think if you just made or bought a 6by9 box and threw them behind the seat, you would be ok. you can check out my stereo here

Well, we'll see about installing some more speakers up in the dash, but I'm still gonna go with the rear amplified 6 x 9s with the small tweeters in them, and a set of door speakers for sure. Not too sure where I am gonna put the head unit in though...

the bottom of the doors have vents in them, basically you're taking your high end audio equipment, and exposing it to the elements. not only are the doors a bad place to put speakers because of this, but because they're pointed at your feet rather than your ears, its hard to get a good sound image. with them mounted in the dash it bounces the sound off of the windshield and directs it towards you, or kick panel enclosures point them directly at you from the start.

and also, don't butcher your poor truck just for a couple speakers..the kickpanels work too well to justify cutting..

My doors have factory mounted speakers in them, and no speakers under the dash I want an install that will look like I did nothing but install a delete panel.

Does anyone make one for our trucks, or will I have to fab some somehow? My stereo is going into the glove box

I have some 3.5's in the dash, I had to cut holes in the dash(no spot for them in the 73-80), but I have a 81-87 dash pad so the pad was good. Then I have some 6.5's in the bottom front of the doors. If I ever want to get rid of them I just have to replace the carpet piece there to cover the holes.

When I buy a new dash pad I am gonna buy an AC dash pad, as well as an AC bezel so I can run heater ducting that comes out front. I guess I'll pick one up that is from the 81 - 87 trucks so I have a spot for front speakers.

yeah putting them in the kickpanels sucks. Especially at high speeds, there is a LOT of air forced against the back of the speaker, rendering it useless (ask me how I know!!)

Ive heard a lot of good stuff about the q-logic panels and I'll probably do that eventually.. In the bottom of the door works pretty good. Ive seen 6x9's and 6.5" rounds down there, both sounded good

Russell, i hate to break it to you, but those are not GM speaker enclosures, they're aftermarket. i was doing some research on a stereo install for my 82 C10 when i was working at the GM dealer, and someone mentioned those to me. they also thought they were factory. i searched every catalog i could find, and spent countless hours on the phone with GM, and they simply do not exist from the factory.

as for mounting the speakers under the dash, if you use the factory 3.5" speaker brackets, they mount underneath the top of the dash panel, and you never see the speakers. as for the delete panel, they did make those. however, its just a black plastic piece, its not the brushed aluminum. the bottom of your bezel is black plastic anyways, so anything else would look out of place. i have both the factory speaker brackets and a delete plate that i may be interested in parting with for the right price.

As far as that and water is concerned get some of these ive got a truck with 6x9 blakputs in the doors with a pair of these and i havent had any problems and they jam pretty good for beind down low Link

I think you are wrong, I have seen (and I might have one somewhere), factory GM truck brochures that DO show them. I highly doubt GM would show them in their brichures if they were aftermarket.

Interesting... But I think that you may possibly be off... I've only ever seen them in 1980 GMC / Chevy Silverado or Sierra Classic trucks, so maybe it was an option that was for that year only. It seems unlikley that a couple guys down in the states would have dealerships that installed the same aftermarket speakers as my truck's way up here in Canada...

pull em off, and look for a 7 or 8 digit casting number on them, or a General Motors stamp of some sort. i'd almost bet you wont find anything.
