Good chrome-like paint for gauge bezel

I'm in the midst of refurbishing my gauge bezel. Finished the clock mod (I'll finish the tut next weekend when I get it wired with the truck), and painted all the needles a new orange, and layed down a coat of flat black for the center portion. Now I need some good quality chrome-like spray paint for the edge of the bezel and the gauge rings.

Re: Good chrome-like paint for gauge bezel

I've tried and tried to find something that looks good... but I gave up.
It's been a couple years, but I seem to remember Rick's having new 7 hole bezels for 35 bucks or so?

I agree with Longhorn Man.
Never have found anything that really has the shine like the chrome itself.

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Good chrome-like paint for gauge bezel

Link's to it? That'll be the 2nd option. Hope that deal is still around.

Just want it close to the factory shinyness.. So far on another site I posted, duplicolor's paint came up a few times. Might give it a shot.

Get rid of the spaces. Go there, then go to the catalog.

Re: Good chrome-like paint for gauge bezel

Mine was not chrome, it was just paint so I repainted it with silver spray paint and it turned out ok.

Re: Good chrome-like paint for gauge bezel

Thanks longhornman. If this falls through, I'll grab a new bezel. Their a helluva lot cheaper there then some the places Ive seen. Gotta work up some more cash after doing brakes on my beater firebird though..

Hey is there a specific paint that you used to paint the needles?

Re: Good chrome-like paint for gauge bezel

Thanks, I'll check out ricks too. Curious though, the catalog says 2006 at the top and also says all prices subject to change. Hope they are still that price.

Re: Good chrome-like paint for gauge bezel

A mixture of Humbrol enamel model paint (color 81, or 18, can't tell ) and Testors #1114 enamel, at a bout a 3:1 ratio between orange and yellow To get the right orange. Added a small bit of white to brighten it, since the orange I used is old and was kinda dull. Then just hand painted them.

You can grab a small glass jar of the Testors paint at walmart and hobby stores. I'm more then willing to bet their regular shade of orange is just about what I have. (or grab an orange, and use a yellow to lighten it if need-be).

I doubt rick is paying for a website for a buisness that doesn't exist. I would try calling in the morning... or monday or what ever.
Or just get the $26 + $10 one on ebay

Think I'll grab a can of Duplicolor Ultra Silver T191: http://www.skypirate.net/rocketry/con_paint_03.htm and see what happens with it. If all else fails, to the Evil-bay!

Re: Good chrome-like paint for gauge bezel

SOKY Classics is Great to deal with, he is a board member great prices. I just got one of the front bumpers with the foglights for less than $140.00 shipped Nice bumper. I also thought about getting a new guage bezel but used my old one for a bit longer. Great prices.
I am sure another board vendor has some good prices also.

Re: Good chrome-like paint for gauge bezel

This is what I use for chroming plastic. Close to chrome as you get. The trick is that you have to have either a white or black base in order for this to work. Base also has to be smooth. I found the the white base works best. You just have to do as instructions say in order to get the chrome look. But this does give you chrome on plastic. This stuff ain't cheap. 3.5 oz for around $12

The picture gives off a flash from the camera, but you can still see the mirror on the spoon.

Buy online or at your local hobby shop.

I haven't tried it yet but heard krylon 1403 dull aluminum works well. It is not as shiny as the aluminun
