Unavailable parts...
OK, Longhorn man was right. I can't find 13 x 2 1/2 inch rear drums for my 71 GMC 3500 longhorn. The drums I have are 1/2 inch past the maximum diameter, putting them in the "unsafe" category. Does anyone know where to get these? HELP!

Re: Unavailable parts...
Were these used on any other trucks? What rearend do you have? My friend has a ton 72 cab chassis with a dump bed and he had trouble finding drums for it but he did find drums new eventually. If you have rearend info I can ask him where he got his.

Re: Unavailable parts...
I called my friend and he got his through NAPA autoparts. Around here they do big truck and equipment parts. They were old stock though so it may be a bust. However we no longer have a NAPA store here in town for me to check for you. It may be worth a shot though.

Re: Unavailable parts...
My local napa says they don't carry it anymore. It's the eaton rear end 410 ratio. ho52071 is the axle I believe.

Re: Unavailable parts...
HO72 in a one ton.
They stopped making these drums in the late 80's early 90's from what I was told. This rear is a GM made rear, with an eaton diff in the center. Only used in GM stuff. Honestly, I would start looking for a 14 bolt... you can get geating better than 4.10 (in a 14 bolt) if you look for them. |

Re: Unavailable parts...
4.10 is a good ratio in a one ton truck....i am improving my ho52 in my 72 burb by doing the swap from a 4.57. all you need is a good overdrive and you are set. you don't want to lose low end in a heavy duty truck, unless you have a trans with a serious granny gear to make up the difference!

Re: Unavailable parts...
Don't know much about this, but would backing plates from a newer rear end fit? Might be possible to change the whole set up to newer style with more parts available?
I put 81 rear brakes on my 69 to get better brakes without going to disc, parts are lots cheaper and available.

Re: Unavailable parts...
Someone posted this site http://brakeperformance.com/site/brake_drums.php on here a while back and I bookmarked it, b/c my drums are getting thin. There's a toll-free number, 866-756-5536, if you haven't tried them already. Good luck!
