McGaughys 13" Front Brake Kit Interchange Parts

I am planning to buy McGaughys 13" front big brake kit (63148). Does anyone know what the rotors and calipers in this kit interchange with? Not to trying to reverse engineer the kit I just want to know so I can get replacement parts in the future. If these parts are unique to McGaughys and I have to go back to them for parts I will probably think twice about buying this kit.

Thanks,

Several of our Forum Vendors are McGaughy dealers. I would talk with them and get their input. Take a look in our Suspension Marketplace for more details.

My research indicates it is the best bang for the buck you can find for 13" brakes.

The rotors are 13" c4 rotors . C5 rotors have a different offset.

Re: McGaughys 13" Front Brake Kit Interchange Parts

I just don't want anybody to be misinformed. To keep Caliper clearance to a minimum a HD c4 Corvette rotor like you find on a 96 vette Gransport is used. I use this rotor on some of my conversions since a lot of wheel makers only build .75 clearance into their wheels. The c5 and c6 rotors are darn near flat and pose clearance issues on a lot of wheel whether you use the silverado Caliper or Corvette Caliper. On another note if you do buy the kit and you want to use ACTUAL C5 rotors and calipers, I have the conversion bracket for that spindle to do so. Those silverado Calipers feel like they weight about 20 lbs each.

Re: McGaughys 13" Front Brake Kit Interchange Parts

if you buy a mcgaughys kit you get a c 5 corvette rotor thats whats included in the kit. its not a c4 rotor, it uses the 2000 silverado caliper, if you wanted to yes you could use the vette caliper instead i can get that bracket and caliper for you aswell
hi
i even called mcgaughys just now to confirm that it is a c5 accoriding to them
i also ordered a 95 c4 rotor a 96 hd rotor and a 97c 5 rotor and i will compare them
i know that the 95c4 rotor is 12" rotor i have a c 4 clip on my 63 nova
i was not aware that the 96 vette had an hd rotor avalible that was 13" dont know the difference but i will when they get here on wed.
thanks ill keep you updated

Re: McGaughys 13" Front Brake Kit Interchange Parts

whent last night to get a c5 rotor and way2lo2 your correct its not a c5 its the 96 grand sport rotor its the only rotor thats 13" the c5 was 12.8" and was like you said darn near flat. and most c4 had a 12 rotor but some came with the 13"
so if you need replacement rotors for the mcgaughys kit you can get 96 vette rotors
thanks way2lo2 for getting me to do the hard work and find out the correct information

I'm just happy you can get rotors pads and calipers from any auto parts store and not wait days on shipping.

If you pick up the rotors from the local parts house & have a 5x5 lug pattern, you still have to get the rotors drilled as they only come w/the 5x4.75" car pattern. The dual patterns is prob one of the features of the 'kit'.

Yes parts cab be easily/locally obtained. But, if you have the 5x5 pattern, a trip to the machine shop or a drill press will be in order before they can be installed.

Re: McGaughys 13" Front Brake Kit Interchange Parts

What about their 6 lug versions? Do they use the 2000 Silverado rotors and calipers? Can you use Vette C5 calipers on that rotor?

63311 is the kit number.

Do you guys sell those also. I had ordered from another manufacturer and they keep being back ordered and pushing their date back.

Hey guys. I have a 73-87 drop spindle/disc brake set-up on my 67. Does anyone know if the McGaughys kit would change the track width any from what I have now?
