Project planning

I am getting my 71 C10 road worthy. It is going to be a work/hunt truck for the next year, and then begin restoration. The steering box is bad. I am going to replace it, but will putting a power steering system in on a 6cyl be able to transfer to a V8 next year? I can get a used steering box for now, but had the idea this morning. I can't find anything saying they are different between a 6 and 8 cyl.

Re: Project planning

Only the brackets are different. The 6 cyl brackets are less common, and more expensive. The hoses may be different too, but that isn't an expensive part.

Re: Project planning

The good news is, you should be able to get your money back on the 6cyl power steering pump brackets, since they are a little hard to come by. But, you'll be able to reuse the pump and gearbox. I'm not sure if the lines are the same though.
