LS factory cruise control hook up
I made this diagram for Clyde65, but thought others might be able to use it. This is just a schematic drawn to hopefully be a little clearer than the factory service manual. This is how to hook up a factory cruise control module for cable throttle body's. It's really fairly simple, you just need to make sure you get the right module. I personally used one from an Astro van, but mid 90's and up S-10's use the same module. The one you want will NOT have a wire in the "H" terminal of the module plug (see 2nd pic, notice the missing wire in the middle). Once you have that you'll need a 4 prong brake light switch, it will have 2 normally open and 2 normally closed terminals. These can be found in alot of 70's and up GM cars and trucks.
To run the factory cruise you need a 4000 pulse per mile signal. This comes straight out of the PCM, it's the signal to the speedo, radio ect. On a '99 to '02 truck, and F bodies it's the C2 connector (the red one) pin 50 dark green/white. The one at C2 49 is a 128k ppm and is only used for ABS, Don't try to use it. You'll need a 4 wire cruise control switch to turn it on and off. If you have a '83 or newer column and it has cruise on it, it should be a 4 wire. For older columns that use a single screw to hold the turn signal lever the '81-'82 trucks and vans have a lever that can be converted that will work. I posted a "how to" here. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=cruise+switch Other than that it's a matter of hooking up the cable to the TB and mounting the module. This will work on almost any EFI engine that has a 4k PPM speed signal so if you have a TPI, LT1, or LS, all GM's use that signal. I have this same set up on my own car and have about $50 max in the whole thing, and it works way better than the aftermarket cruise I have on another car. this cruise works flawlessly! set it and it stays there and doesn't fluxuate like the aftermarket.

Re: LS factory cruise control hook up
The brake light switch that you will need and pics of the lever. Also it should be noted that you can't run LED brake lights with this system, because the module needs to see a ground through the G terminal, and LEDs don't have enough resistance.

Re: LS factory cruise control hook up
Dose anyone know where I can get one of these? I've searched every pick-a-part in the area and nothing. I found the right year/ model w/cc but all levers were gone. I've got a later style modified with a single screw mount but I'm not happy with the look. To bulky.

You are an angel! A manly, tough angel but an angel none the less.
One question, will a 99-02 GM truck module work also? Would it be different in any way? Posted via Mobile Device

Re: LS factory cruise control hook up
In reference to post #2, LED lights, you can use LED lights with these cruise controls using a relay to allow the cruise to find the ground. Here is the diagram. I used it on my truck and it worked. Hope this helps. (my truck is DBW but this should still work).

lMy personal car doesn't have the brake switch I showed, it has the switch under the floor, and you can only find single switches, so I used that with a relay to control the TCC, and the cruise is tapped into that. But I think if you're unsure of your wiring abilities its best to keep it simple. BTW, nice diagram, I wish I knew how to draw stuff on the computer but I don't so you all get my hand drawn diagrams. So cruise control(dbw or cable box), LED lights, and a relay. What ls1nova71 means exactly here is that you take the brake switch wire(from the inside of cab, white wire off switch) or either left or right brake light wire outside of cab, and splice into that, one end of the wire attached to relay 85 pin, the other end of the wire attached to relay 86 pin. You DO NOT GROUND the relay. You are only using the relay coil inside the relay like it's a "resistor". Someone like me who needed that detail, might benefit from this post. EDIT: See posts below, I was wrong.... .

Re: LS factory cruise control hook up
Your right LS1nove, it dosnt have a wire in that one spot. So cool, I have it all in there and ready but like I said before, wiring was too confusing. I will wire it the next day off I have...if I have one.

Re: LS factory cruise control hook up
Anyone have this for drive by wire throttle bodies with TAC modules? (example 2002 LQ9 engine)

Re: LS factory cruise control hook up
Do you know that from experience or is that info just from looking at the diagram?
Thats the thougth I had as well, but whether computer wise it actually works in real life or not I have not gotten answered. This is a big part of my decision (if cruise works with DBW) to keep the DBW or put a cable throttle body on. Thanks,

On your 2002, the wires on the TAC you need are, connector C1 (the engine harness one, not the one going to the pedal) pin 4 dark blue wire is the set/coast, pin 5 gray/black wire is the resume/accel, and pin 14 gray wire is the on/off. You will need an ignition 12v source to power these through the switch. You also have to have the brake lights hooked up and the correct brake light switch for it to work, but that's really all there is to it.

Re: LS factory cruise control hook up
My set up is from an 01 Suburban DBW. I used the control switch period correct for my column and followed Ackatack's wiring on his post and my cruise works great. Of course I had to use the relays for the LED lights and relays for his diagram to reverse the polarity of the switch to match the TAC. Here is a link to his post http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=398006

Re: LS factory cruise control hook up
I will probably end up with a Summit Racing aftermarket column.... for now I have the factory NON-tilt auto column shift.... So I need the one with the hole for the screw....
What did these come out of again.... 3 or 4 wire doesn't matter... |
