What did you get done? 11/04

My wife hosted a wedding shower this weekend. The bride to be and her family are scattered all over the country so they converged on my house. The ladies started arriving Friday night, with the remainder coming in on Saturday. Some of them didn't leave till today.

Needless to say, I was looking for a place to be. Any place that did not include my house. I ran calls all day Saturday, then went to the local cruise spot that evening. The weather was awesome so the turnout was huge. Look for pics here- Link

Today I finally made it to the garage to tear down my 77. Since it blew a water pump gasket two weeks ago, I haven't been able to touch it. Today I got it torn apart, and started the clean up. It took me 20 minutes to pull the water pump, and 3 hours to clean up the front of the motor. It's amazing how sticky antifreeze can be.

I started on repairing the edge of the pump where the paint had lifted. Got it feathered back, and a couple coats of primer. I have a coat of color on now, but it's not blending as well as I had hoped. I still need to work on that before I can reassemble.

What did you get done.

Re: What did you get done? 11/04

I finally have truck progress to report. Went to the paint shop today and helped work on my truck. The inside has been completely re-painted, and the fenders, front valance, and hood are now completely done. Tonight the outside of the cab gets it, the bed will follow on Tuesday. I will be heading back over late this week or weekend to reassemble everything.

Re: What did you get done? 11/04

Took all my interior out of the blazer and test fit the new seats. I am trying to sell all the old tweed interior as a kit, but I my have a hard time doing this. And got my two new tires in on Friday BF 295-40-20, I just need to make up my mind on what wheels I should get. This winter the blazer in going under big changes. If my wife dose not leave me for doing this.

Re: What did you get done? 11/04

Finally got a sport leather wrapped steering wheel off egay, it is in terrific shape. Put it on, and glad I finally bought one. Been procrastinating for so long.
Met bowtieogre at the local cruise in on Saturday night, wow the time sure got away from us! It was nice to meet another member and talk about trucks and stuff.

tvblazer78- How good is the leather on the new seats? I know you said you wanted something other than gray. Have you considered doing a two-tone using the gray that's on those seats? It would save you a ton of money in the long run...

Here's an example of what can be done on my 06 Silverado

That looks sweet, I my put a brown like that in my seats with the tan. So ya I did make my mind up with a tan light brown color. Should give it a sweet look.

Thanks Ken for your help.

Jeff- Dude, that...

You have to be pumped about getting some "real" progress going on your paint. It's going to be killer.

Nothing on the truck, got a little bit done on a couple cars though. Nothing to speak of since it was a down day for me.

TVblazer your paint is impressive! Is that base clear? If so how many coats of clear are on it? I wish my paint jobs came out that nice, hats off to whoever smoothed and sprayed it!

Bigblock73 yours is going to look awesome too, cant wait to see it done..

Yes it is base clear and it is about 11 years old too. It helps not driving it much over the years. Thanks for asking..

When I got home from work I worked on my Nova getting it ready to sell next weekend at the Goodguys show. I am also gathering parts for the truck. Purchased a 400ci to rebuild for the truck. Going to pick it up on Tuesday

Re: What did you get done? 11/04

well alot of stuff yet nothing was done by me
During the week i got my exhaust done so the truck runs alot quieter and you dont get stoned driving it. Also during the week i ordered from Advanced on line spark plugs and both brake hoses for the front wheels. They came in in the last couple of days and in addition i located a bracket that will allow me to hook up the kickdown cable for the th350 tranny
also on friday i was out by Jons shop and picked up the cab corners and the inner and outer rocker panels.
Saturday we had a party to go to and my buddy agreed that he would help me do the welding on the truck so today after moving some furniture with the truck for my son, we dropped off the 82 by my buddy so we can do the welding when he has some time possibly next weekend
the bad news is i still aint put together the kickdown, spark plugs, or brake hoses on the truck
so hopefully in the next couple of weeks ill have the truck cab in its entireity lol

Re: What did you get done? 11/04

That was a very cool week for me.I was off from work to get the truck inspected and registered!
Monday: Rain! Went to the registration office and got a 5 day registration.
Started the baby and headed to the gasstation.Filled up 70 liters for 94 Euros ! Checked all fluids and drove to the glass service to get the windshield trim installed! The cab got wet inside. After the installation of the trim the rain stayed outside!Driving felt great and the tranny shifted really smooth. On the Autobahn i drove at 55 mph for about 20 miles and the exhaust roared nice!In the shop of a friend we started to get the ignition and carb dialed in right.what we did with ears and eyes wasn´t to far away from good!A valvecovergasket blew away so i haeded to another friend who had a pair of rubbergaskets laying around and installed them.Sealed!
After that i drove another 20 miles to the dyno and it still rained.
Got on the dyno and the man carefully pressed the gas a few times before doing the "wot ride".The sound is awesome! The truck has 243.6 horsepower at the wheels and did 218 kph(136 mph)!
Unfortunately engineoil is coming out the convertercover which leads me to the thought that the crankshaftseal is bad and the freezeplugs do leak too!and the front driverside nitrodropshock is leaking oil also!
Just a bit so i drove it all week around and it was fun!
On tuesday i went to the TÜV inspector with all the papers i have and he said :" Oh that´ll be a closer inspection if all parts are legalized and have papers and that takes time so make a new appointment next week!Good bye!"
Tried 4 other places and inspectors but no one had time and courage enough to give me the legalization to get registered! They want a speedometer that shows the correct speed, a wheel that is proof to carry the weight of the truck,an exhaust that you can´t hear and suspensionparts that are tested for safety and have enough room for suspensiontravel without hitting or rubbing anywhere!Or they want a trucks papers that has all that installed and was inspected and registered allready!
I drove around about 260 miles that week and consumed about 25 gallons of gas tested every function and enjoyed the sound.
Friday me and my buddy cleaned up our garage and took all the junk to the dump! It´s great to have a pickup truck!Washed it and stored it back in the garage to prepare for the next try!

Re: What did you get done? 11/04

I hit the junkyard early Sat morning and found a set of cab corner speaker brackets and a tach cluster for $16. I replaced my aging headlights with a set of Silverstars and headed to a local cruise in that evening and met a board member. Last night I ordered a flip kit, flowmaster muffler and white face gauge kit. Good weekend for me.

Re: What did you get done? 11/04

Saturday I worked on my wheel tubs for the 68.... again. Hammer, dolly, hammer, grind. I got them mostly DA'd w/80grit on the top side. I managed to split one of the flanges when hammering everything flat so I have to do some touch-up repairs there but they're just about ready for mud.

Sun I went to the NASCAR race @ TMS. It was an experience to say the least (this was my first cup race, I've been to several Indy races here). We left my work in Garland @ 8:00a sharp, was cooking breakfast @ 9:30 @ the track, & didn't get home until 10:30p. Instead of sitting in traffic, we cooked out burgers for dinner & listened to the Cowboy game on the radio.

Oooooo, Porterbuilt dropmember! I'm totally drooling.

Saturday I replaced yet another stupid control module in my HEI. I think I might have to pick up another one here pretty soon. I bought an extra to keep in the truck with me in case this happens to me again while I'm not at home.
