Got a Smokin Deal on a 1967 GMC C20 Super Custom

I was browsing through Craigslist Monday night and ran across an ad for a 1967 GMC truck. The seller was asking $800 for it. There was no seat or gas tank in the pictures and the the seller said the engine runs but there are no brakes. The pictures were pretty bad except I could see the custom fender badge so I figured it was worth a look. I contacted the guy and he said he would let it go for $600 and I told him I probably would take it but wanted to look at it first. Drove up there today and was pleasantly surprised to find out it was a Super Custom and this was inside the bed of the truck.

Needless to say it came home with me. Overall its pretty solid except the floor pan under the gas tank. it's pretty rotted through. The grill took a pretty good shot at some point but it didn't hurt the core support just the headlight bucket. Someone painted the truck black with a paint brush at some point and the original green paint is showing through. Hopefully most of the black paint will come off with a good power washing. Originally I was thinking part out but I think this one needs to be saved. I'll find out more after I get some time to work on it.

Not sure yet what I'm going to do with it. I'll know more as I get to really take a look at it. You can have the radio but the knobs are staying with me. I've been searching for those for my project for a while now!

Nice find!
I'd save it as is. V6 tank engine and buckets make it IMHO

Jeremy, Nice find! I'll give you $600 for it, so you have free buddy buckets!

Looks like an ordered truck, nicely set up with the 305, np435, green color, and brightwork.

Whats confusing is that its got the z62 package (custom, not super custom) yet had buckets. Don't go by the fender badges, both super customs and customs got those.

Edit, I see Tim said once that Z62 was the code for Super custom but this SPID just says custom and Z62 was the mid grade, at least in later years. I think you have a super custom but can't confirm. Since most 67 GMC's didn't have SPID's, they are extra interesting to decode

I was kinda scratching my head about that also. I was thinking bucket seats were usually listed on the SPID. I still have the glove box door with the SPID off that truck I parted last year and it also has Z62 listed as an option but I didn't think that was a super custom because it had the script custom emblems like you're searching for. Hopefully one of the Tim's will chime in on this.

Re: Got a Smokin Deal on a 1967 GMC C20 Super Custom

I have to ask, does anyone have any info on the windshield wiper? Looks like it has some sort of wind deflector on it. Aftermarket or factory?

I have a set on my fairly original burb and this is the only other set Ive seen.

Thanks

Re: Got a Smokin Deal on a 1967 GMC C20 Super Custom

Here's the SPID of that other truck. Maybe it was a Super Custom also and the fender badges were switched out? The only difference I see is the Z61. One has DD and the other is DG

Re: Got a Smokin Deal on a 1967 GMC C20 Super Custom

Here's a picture of a 1967 GMC c30 SPID I found on the site that has super custom listed as Z84 so this must just be the mid level custom truck and someone added the buddies? They were only available in the super customs correct?

Your truck came with a fawn interior and the seat is green. They were an option but were part of the Super Custom option. Here is a case of the 3.54 ratio in a non-big block non-automatic

I wouldn't restore that. I'd try to remove the rest of that black spray paint that's already falling off first though and buff up that original paint. Put it back together and enjoy it.

I think that's the direction I'm going to take. Hopefully most of the black paint will come off.

Haha! Actually the master cylinder is there just out of view from the camera. It's actually a brake booster delete option!

So would the buddies be a part of the custom option or would they be listed separately on the SPID? I've read that in the Chevy CST's they weren't listed as an option on the SPID.

It didn't hit me before but like Tim pointed out, the buckets in bed are green and that means they aren't original to the truck. The other SPIDS you posted confirm that Z84 is top level (super custom) for these trucks and Z62 is mid grade (custom). Buddies would have been an option in anything less than a Z84 but would be on the SPID. Buddies are standard in a Super Custom 67 and 68 as far as I know.

What is that written on the firewall just below the cowl panel? It is in cursive writing.

As much as I would love to have many, many parts off that truck, I say do not part it out.
