man it allot of tries and baby for my truck to start expeshly if it hasn't bean ran in a day or too...what would cause this i have a sbc 400 also how easy/hard is it for you guys to start your trucks

Poke, it have a carb or FI? Quads have a tendancy to drain down from the plugs below the secondary jets. If it starts with no problem if run every day look there first. When it does finally start does it blow black smoke? Its easy to fix once you get the throttle plate off. If it's wet with gas you found it. You'll see the plugs in the center of the carb. Just tap them tight with a punch and then restake them. With 2 part epoxy cover the plugs and reassemble. Make sure everything is clean and dry before using the epoxy. Then make sure to change the oil. This doesn't apply to FI or if the engine doesn't start well normally or it has a 2 barrel carb. jim

More information on your problem needed. What type of carberator do you have? Edelbrock's and Holley's don't really like alot of fuel pressure. To much pressure tends to overide the needle and seat. The fuel then drains down into the cylinders causing flooding. The float may be sticking. You may want to take the bowls off and clean everything real good. Do you have a fuel filter?

I don't know too much about quad's, but a good cleaning couldn't hurt it. Check your choke, it may be stuck.

Mine needs a light pump of gas whilst cranking, then a 2 second break... Then turn key again, and she fires right up! Mine's a Durajet (half quad.) If I stand on the starter she is real slow to start.

mine will fire right up, unless its been sitting a couple of weeks. then just a couple of pumps on the accelerator and boom there it is. yeah, boom........

If my 77 sits I gotta pump it and crank pump and crank. I rebuilt the carb and it starts alot easier but it does sit for weeks at a time without being run. I would clean/rebuild the quadra jet, clean/replace the pluggs, and check your timing. All of this will help the motor to run alot better and will help with starting.

Napa sells a rebuild kit for the quadra jet for around $22.00. I suggest with any carb rebuild / cleaning you do it in one sit down from dissasembly to re assembly. That way you don't loose or put anything back on wrong.

Hey bud, get an Edelbrock 1406 carb with a four hole adapter, it's a good
upgrade if your old carb is tired.
Rebuild kits don't come with throttle shaft bushings, so it will still suck air if
they are worn out, even though it's "rebuilt".
Your fuel pump may be letting the fuel drain back into the tank, making it take a long time to start.
