Ignition switch issue
My 1966 C-10 has an ignition switch like the center one in the pic with the wings. If you turn it all the way left with the key in and then remove the key it is locked. If you turn it one click to the right from the locked position and remove the key you can start it with out the key.
Is this an optional 64-66 ignition switch or is it a replacement from some other Chevy. I thought the 1966 should have the flat top switch like on the left or right. My switch is acting up occasionally and I may replace it if I can't fix it. I like the one with wings but which is correct for a restoration. Does anyone know the applications for the different year trucks? PS I found these pics on the e-net...

Re: Ignition switch issue
I found this link on the board, good info. I guess I have the Impala switch mentioned in this link.
Would only the flat ignition key cylinder be stock? http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=528310

Re: Ignition switch issue
My truck came with the flat one, and it also would turn without the key if you didn't take it all the way left.
Bought a replacement at napa, and it l;ooked the same as the center one. |

Re: Ignition switch issue
The one with the wings is correct for 1966--based on ALL I have seen. There should be even one more position to the left, in addition to the "lock" position you described. It would be the "acc" position, where radio and such other accessories will be switched to power without fear of burning the points/running battery down when regular ignition is turned "on".
Enjoy that truck...and show us pictures. Sam |

Re: Ignition switch issue
I just went out and checked my switch again, and your right...
My switch has 5 positions, starting all the way to the left (ccw): Acc, lock, unlock, on, start. I never knew that the Acc position was there, never used it. COOL! Well, if mine keeps acting up I will have to replace it. But I will replace it with the 5 position type with wings. Do all you 66' owners with known original ignition switches have the wings? Calling all original trucks??? report in.

Re: Ignition switch issue
Can't verify it's original, but my '66 has the flat (no wings) switch.

Re: Ignition switch issue
Tell us how many positions your switch has, I suppose the flat ones could have 5 as well.????

Re: Ignition switch issue
Same here. Multiple '66's with the flat-top three position switch just like that.

Re: Ignition switch issue
My 66 had no wings 4 positions; Acc, off, on, start. I replaced it when it would occasionally emit a lot of smoke. The replacement (Classic Ind,?) has 5 positions. I'm not sure what the extra position is for.
