67 "dirty dakota" GMC

Got to spend a little more time on the 67 i drug home awhile back. I shall call this one, "dirty dakota" as i don't think it was ever washed or waxed or cleaned much since new and i can't find any evidence it has ever left the state of north dakota from new.
I actually took it down the road for the first time today in who knows how long. This was after replacing the gas tank and lines that were very bad. Somehow the brakes started working again and the power steering works but makes some noise. Maybe that is common on the old ram assist?
The old V-6 runs smooth and actually has a little power!
Next project will be to clean it up some more. The cowel panel is full to the top with pine needles and the pine pitch will take ALONG time to get off the fragile paint. I also added pics for the purists of paint lines and firewall markings. There is no SPID on this truck, but seems to have some options written on the firewall.
The first group of pics are what i am starting with. And yes that is pine pitch that is almost 1/4" thick in some spots! And check out the fuel gauge sending unit!
Enjoy.

Re: 67 "dirty dakota" GMC

Some days you scratch your head wondering why you do these things.
Looks to be an original paint truck. Maybe these pics will help someone along in their restoration.

Re: 67 "dirty dakota" GMC

Last pics for now. Keep in mind this isn't a restoration or project, just an old truck that needed saving and we will see how far it goes.

ISH... This took some time to clean. No fun, but had to be done. Went through the kick panel vents and got everything good and clean also. And yes that bucket was almost full.

It's really nice to see an original truck like that being saved.

Re: 67 "dirty dakota" GMC

Nice 67, my 67 GMC wasn't as clean but for $800.00 and an additional 6 cylinder in the bed I couldn't complain. Hard to find documented production numbers but there aren't many. Good Find!

I think you're a sucker seeing how the previous owner gave you his pitch on the truck and you went home with it. Now comes the remorse needling the heck out of you

I have been pretty fortunate to find 3 67 gmc customs in the last few years... One was even a 4x4.

Re: 67 "dirty dakota" GMC

Update... I finally have a clear title in hand and started working on this some more.
The slots i had laying around and figured i should use them up. They have been neglected so long they didn't even shine when wet! Many hours of cleaning and they look pretty good again.

Re: 67 "dirty dakota" GMC

And some time aligning body panels, fixing this and that, put the slots on, spent some time getting the friggen tree sap off and polished up the grill. Mounted the tailgate i picked up from board member tyler lay on my way through oklahoma. Still aways to go, but coming along.

That's a sharp looking truck. I think it needs a little altitude adjustment. You say it has a ways to go, is the rest mechanical?

That is looking real nice there Eric. I love to see them saved and put back in use. Just when you think you have things down, you see something that raises a question such as, is the antenna mounted on the drivers side from the factory on a 67 GMC? If so, I have never seen one there before.

Good addition of the slots. Slots look good on anything in my opinion

Keep up the good work,
Tom

Great job Eric! I read through the whole thread to get back up to speed on things. The Ram assist on my '68CST works smooth as silk and it doesn't leak a drop. If yours is still making noise you might try some Lucas power steering additive in it. Glad to see you are giving this one some love. Before long there won't be many GMC's left with the original engines in them.....

A little mechanical, maybe some wiring, (headlights don't come on) windows need clean and lube, lots of interior cleaning, etc... Not going overboard with this one, just a reliable driver for now.

Thanks for the compliment.
Someone added the radio, they even cut through the radio delete to install it. Antenna should be on the pass side if factory.

Keep up the good work,
Tom

Drivers side was to the west and a big pine tree on the right.

Thanks. The steering works good, just makes a little noise. I added fluid last winter and it is still full. Everything is dirty underneath as this must have spent time on many a gravel road... Hoping to make this my summer beater as i accidently sold my orange big block truck a couple years ago and haven't had an old truck to drive since. Didn't know i would miss it that bad.

Re: 67 "dirty dakota" GMC

Rained here pretty good this am and noticed water standing in the bed. Figured i would unplug the drain hole and didn't find one. Did the 67s not have a drain hole in the bed? Anyone with an original 67 bed want to check?
